Machine Learning Engineer Intern

The SoundCloud summer internship program is a 10-week paid internship starting in June and ending in August. Our DEI-focused program is designed to create sustainable pipelines to invest in SoundCloud’s future, discover new, diverse talent at all levels, and develop future leaders who will contribute to all business areas. SoundCloud is looking for a Machine Learning Engineer Intern to join our Recommendation Core team. They will work closely with the team to assist in data preparation, model validation, and A/B test analysis for Seq2Seq-based recommendation models. Their contributions will directly impact user engagement by optimizing personalized content recommendations.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist in data preparation and preprocessing for recommendation models.
• Validate and evaluate Seq2Seq recommendation models using metrics such as NDCG, MRR, and Recall@K
• Conduct experiments on large-scale datasets to test new feature embeddings and user behavior modeling techniques
• Perform detailed analysis of A/B test results to assess model performance and user engagement
• Present findings, insights, and actionable recommendations to team members and leadership

Experience and Background:

• Strong understanding of Machine Learning concepts, specifically Seq2Seq models, Transformers, and RNNs
• Proficiency in Python, experience with PyTorch or TensorFlow, and familiarity with data processing libraries like Pandas and NumPy
• Ability to clean, process, and analyze large datasets, as well as experience conducting and interpreting A/B tests using SQL
• Familiarity with recommender system metrics (NDCG, MRR, Recall@K) and experience with hyperparameter tuning
• Strong analytical skills, effective communication, and the ability to present technical results clearly and collaborate effectively within a team
• Knowledge of CI/CD practices for machine learning workflows 
• Basic experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) for deploying ML services 
• Basic understanding of functional programming concepts

Internship applications must be submitted by April 4th, 2025. 

The summer internship program will be 10 weeks from June 2nd, 2025 - August 8th, 2025 (these dates are not flexible). This is a full-time internship and will be hybrid based out of our Berlin office. In-person attendance will be expected 2-3 times a week.
