Job Description
Primary Function of Position
At Intuitive, our product data are the lifeblood of our business. They power the insights we surface to our various customers, our product development process, our service and quality systems, and our internal decision-making. We are seeking an experienced and visionary Director of Data Engineering and Data Services to lead and scale our product data initiatives. This role will be responsible for designing and implementing a robust data infrastructure: ingesting raw data from our physical and digital products and services, arranging and modeling the data, extracting metrics and aggregated values, and enabling seamless access to well-designed data products for digital products and various partners within Intuitive. This basic responsibility must be delivered within the context of a global company operating in dozens of regions of varying requirements, in the presence of shifting technical landscape and changing regulations, with imperfect capture and transmission of data from deployed systems, while under service-level agreements set by all stakeholders. The ideal candidate will have a deep technical background, strong leadership skills, and a proven ability to build world-class teams that deliver innovative, business-aligned data solutions.
Essential Job Duties
- Strategic Leadership
- Define the vision, strategy, and roadmap for the data engineering and data services functions to support organizational objectives.
- Collaborate with business leaders to align data initiatives with company goals.
- Foster a culture of data-driven decision-making across teams.
- Team Management
- Build, mentor, and manage a high-performing team of data engineers, architects, and data services professionals.

- Data Architecture & Infrastructure
- Lead the design, implementation, and operationalization of scalable, secure, and reliable data pipelines, warehouses, and platforms.
- Ensure data accessibility, accuracy, and consistency across the organization.
- Oversee the implementation of cloud-based and service-based data solutions (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP, Snowflake) to support data needs.
- Data Governance & Compliance
- Contribute to and enforce data governance policies to ensure data privacy, security, and compliance with relevant regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA).
- Partner with stakeholders to standardize data definitions, metrics, and processes.
- Innovation & Continuous Improvement
- Stay ahead of emerging trends in data technologies, tools, and methodologies.
- Identify opportunities to optimize data infrastructure and processes for cost-efficiency and performance.
- Drive innovation in data analytics and supporting integrations (AI/ML, automation, etc.).
- Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement
- Work closely with product, IT, Data Analytics and A.I., and business teams to understand data requirements and deliver solutions.
- Act as a thought leader, evangelizing data capabilities and driving cross-functional collaboration.
Qualifications
Required Skills and Experience
Technical Expertise
- Proven expertise in designing and implementing large-scale data platforms, ETL pipelines, and real-time streaming architectures.
- Hands-on experience with contemporary data technologies (e.g., Spark, Kafka, Snowflake, Databricks, etc.).
- Strong knowledge of cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and DevOps practices.
- Proficiency in programming languages (e.g., Python, Java, SQL).
Leadership & Soft Skills
- Exceptional problem-solving, organizational, and decision-making skills.
- Strong ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
- Track record of successfully leading and growing technical teams.
Required Education and Training
- Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
- 10+ years of experience in data engineering or a related field, with 5+ years in a leadership role.

We provide market-competitive compensation packages, inclusive of base pay, incentives, benefits, and equity. It would not be typical for someone to be hired at the top end of range for the role, as actual pay will be determined based on several factors, including experience, skills, and qualifications.
