Network Production Engineer, Datacentre Network

Meta's datacenter capacity is expanding to accommodate the increasing demand for our services. This growth presents a significant scaling challenge that our engineers address on an ongoing basis. To meet this challenge, we must not only develop and enhance the physical infrastructure connecting numerous servers but also ensure seamless network operation and adherence to rigorous performance standards.
The introduction of our proprietary switching software (FBOSS) and networking products (Wedge and Six-pack) has opened up new avenues for innovation in traditional networking. By leveraging these technologies, we can rapidly iterate and explore novel solutions in an area previously characterized by limited innovation opportunities.


Meta's datacenter network engineering team is seeking individuals who are passionate about tackling complex challenges and driving innovation at a rapid pace. Data center networking at Meta encompasses a diverse range of disciplines, spanning all layers from physical infrastructure (fiber and optics) to distributed routing protocols like BGP, and culminating in our proprietary software stack that powers our network devices.

We are looking for a network engineer with software engineering skills who design, build, and operate our worldwide Data Center network. You must have experience in network infrastructure and fiber connectivity solutions, including the design and deployment of data center infrastructure and optical technologies.Network Production Engineer, Datacentre Network Responsibilities

• Architect, design, engineer and implement scalable physical and logical datacenter infrastructure solutions.
• Research, develop & deploy numerous technologies and network topologies in order to evolve and scale our data centers.
• Work closely with our hardware, software and sourcing teams, and external vendors to develop new optical solutions and influence the future of networking and its associated infrastructure.
• Partner with our software teams to develop and implement the tooling required to provision, manage, monitor and troubleshoot our networks.
• Automate physical network design for Massive Scale Data Centers (MSDC's) using our existing tools and implement new tools to support scale and performance requirements.
• Manage the execution of network infrastructure design programs, publish Engineering Document, business requirements documents and Method of Procedures (MOP).

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 4+ years experience in at least one programming language (python, C++, go, or rust) and Linux basics
• 4+ years of experience in TCP, IP[v4|v6], structured cabling/ fiber optic infrastructure and application and limitations within the datacenter space
• Knowledge of DC and Backbone Network architecture

Preferred Qualifications

• Working knowledge of 40/100G Ethernet and CWDM, DWDM and optical transport network technologies.
• Understanding of different Optics and internals of a switch ASIC.
• Understanding of network hardware platforms and their specifications in the datacenter space
• Understanding of network hardware platforms and their specifications in the datacenter space
• Familiarity with the Linux based systems.
• Knowledge of optical ethernet technologies and their evolution
• Knowledge of optical ethernet technologies and their evolution
• Experience in MSDC network design.
• Experience troubleshooting common network issues
• Experience troubleshooting common network issues
• Experience working in a multi-vendor network environment
• Experience working in a multi-vendor network environment
