At Thomson Reuters, we're revolutionizing legal work through our CoCounsel AI platform. As Principal Engineer for CoCounsel AI Applications, you'll work closely with the Sr. Director for AI Applications to drive the technical vision for our generative AI products, ensuring we deliver powerful, innovative solutions that transform how legal professionals work.
 

About the Role

In this opportunity as Principal Engineer, CoCounsel AI Applications, you will:

  • Provide technical leadership in defining and implementing software development strategies for critically important AI projects, ensuring alignment with business objectives

  • Lead the design and development of powerful new features for CoCounsel, driving innovation in AI-native product experiences

  • Mentor a globally distributed team of engineering managers, architects, and developers, helping to strengthen the organization's engineering culture

  • Drive the seamless integration of LLMs and generative AI technologies into user-friendly applications that deliver real value to legal professionals

  • Lead complex technical initiatives with significant impact, exercising autonomy in decision-making while managing technical risk

  • Partner with cross-functional teams to translate business requirements into actionable technical solutions

  • Develop and communicate long-term technical vision through documentation, requirements definition, and measurement frameworks

About You

You're a fit for the role of Principal Engineer, CoCounsel AI Applications if your background includes:

  • 5+ years of hands-on software engineering experience with a proven track record of developing scalable, web-based solutions

  • Experience with modern UI frameworks (React, Angular, Vue or similar), TypeScript, Node.js, and Python

  • Comfort with AI technologies, including GenAI concepts like prompt engineering, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), and fine-tuning

  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP)

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to influence across organizational boundaries

  • Strong communication skills to articulate complex technical solutions both verbally and visually

  • Ability to navigate ambiguity, make data-driven decisions, and deliver in a fast-paced environment

  • Demonstrated ability to mentor others and contribute to engineering culture

Thomson Reuters complies with local laws that require upfront disclosure of the expected pay range for a position. The base compensation range varies across locations. For any eligible US locations, unless otherwise noted, the base compensation range for this role is $154,000 - $286,000. This role may also be eligible for an Annual Bonus based on a combination of enterprise and individual performance. Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual’s knowledge, skills and experience with consideration given to internal equity. Base pay is one part of a comprehensive Total Reward program which also includes flexible and supportive benefits and other wellbeing programs.
