About the Role

We are seeking a talented and experienced Data Scientist to join our Data Cognition Team at BMO Capital Markets. As a Data Scientist, you will be responsible for developing and implementing advanced analytics and machine learning models to support algorithmic trading strategies, and drive business decisions in the front office, Investment Banking, and Corporate Banking. You will collaborate closely with business teams and other stakeholders to understand their data needs and provide insights that improve trading performance and profitability.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement advanced analytics and machine learning models, using techniques such as Generative AI, Deep Learning, and Reinforcement Learning, to support algorithmic trading in various asset classes including Equities, Fixed Income, Commodities, and Foreign Exchange, as well as Cross Assets Structured Products and Investment Banking and Corporate Banking initiatives.

  • Collaborate with Trading teams, Investment Banking, and Corporate Banking stakeholders to understand their data needs and provide insights and recommendations to improve trading strategies and business decisions.

  • Research and experiment with new techniques in Machine Learning and time series analysis to enhance trading performance, investment banking strategies, and profitability.

  • Communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and present results to senior management and other key decision-makers.

  • Leverage Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence techniques to improve current prediction models, enhance data collection procedures, and create fully functional and reproducible Machine Learning pipelines to support both trading and banking initiatives.

  • Analyze large datasets to create predictive models that support investment banking and corporate banking initiatives.

  • Ensure all steps needed in the delivery of demanding data products are understood and executed.

  • Visualize complex data in a clear and concise manner.

Who we’re looking for:

  • A Ph.D. in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field with a focus on finance, economics, or operations research.

  • At least 3 years of experience in data science or machine learning, with skills in statistical modeling and time series analysis. We encourage applications from all experience levels, both junior and senior professionals. Multiple positions are available.

  • Capital Markets experience is preferred.

  • Strong programming skills and experience with cloud technologies.

  • Familiarity with finance tools such as Bloomberg, FactSet, and Thomson Reuters is a plus.

  • Strong quantitative, technology, and finance skills.

  • Ability to investigate phenomena, formulate hypotheses, and learn from data.

  • Team-oriented, comfortable sharing ideas and working effectively with others.

  • Able to exercise independent thought and judgment, and adapt to new tasks with little notice.

  • Detail and results-oriented with advanced knowledge of design and analysis methodologies.

  • Experience with common data science toolkits.

The salary range for this role is $100,000 up to $150,000 CAD (subject to negotiation and subject to the candidate meeting the specific skills, experience, education, and qualification requirements)

Salary:

$81,600.00 - $151,200.00

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group’s expected target for the first year in this position.

BMO Financial Group’s total compensation package will vary based on the pay type of the position and may include performance-based incentives, discretionary bonuses, as well as other perks and rewards.
