Alexion is looking for a sharp-minded, assertive, and energetic data leader who will be responsible for developing data strategies to support the delivery of technical projects/programs to meet the short- and long-term data goals.

We are seeking a highly skilled and expert Data Management leader with a strong cross-functional and global background in the biopharmaceutical industry whose passion is understanding how to best lead healthcare data to drive business innovation.

This individual will play a critical role in the success of the Alexion organization. They will be a highly visible IT leader with an interface to all levels of Alexion leadership. They will partner cross-functionally to proactively see opportunities and to enable better decision making at Alexion.

The idea candidate will spearhead strategic initiatives focused on optimizing our data assets to drive innovation and business success. This pivotal role requires a visionary leader to lead all aspects of the development and implementation of advanced data management solutions, with specific emphasis on Data Products, Master Data Management, Data Marketplace, and Data Governance.

You will lead a talented team of data management professionals and collaborate closely with cross-functional stakeholders to ensure data integrity, enhance data-driven decision-making, and facilitate a culture of data excellence. Your expertise will help us unlock the full potential of our data, paving the way for transformative business outcomes in the rapidly evolving biopharmaceutical landscape.

The individual must be confident and be client-oriented, an exceptionally strong collaborator, capable of contributing innovative thoughts and ideas to create meaningful value for the functions and for the enterprise. They must also adopt corporate leader competencies; attract and develop top talent, drive results, possess a strategic mindset, mange ambiguity and complexity, and drive engagement.

You will be responsible to:

  • Develop and execute data management strategies that align with organizational goals. Lead efforts to standardize data management processes and tools across the enterprise and ensure alignment with overall AZ information architecture and Data office.

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of data management professionals leading Master & Reference Data Management, Data Product Strategy and implementing and supporting data and information architecture deliverables. Align team objectives with company goals to drive continuous improvement and value creation.

  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to understand data needs, define requirements, and develop data strategies that address business challenges. Communicate complex data management concepts to non-technical audiences effectively.

  • Engage with the AZ Enterprise Data Office and support data governance frameworks, policies, and procedures at Alexion. Promote a data-driven culture by providing education and guidance on data governance best practices and ensuring adherence across the organization. Ensure data quality standards are met through robust control and validation processes.

  • Provide guidance on data architecture, including data modeling, database design, and integration processes. Ensure systems and platforms are scalable and flexible to accommodate evolving business needs.

  • Oversee Master Data Management (MDM) strategy and execution to ensure data accuracy, consistency, integrity, and interoperability across the organization. Develop and implement standards for data stewardship and master data governance.

  • Lead the development and management of FAIR and TRUSTed data products to enhance business value. Ensure data products are designed and delivered to meet the strategic needs of the business while maintaining robust data quality and compliance.

  • Drive the creation and management of a data marketplace that facilitates the seamless discovery, access, and sharing of data assets. Enable self-service data capabilities for business users while ensuring proper governance and security.

  • Identify opportunities to leverage new technologies and methodologies to improve data management practices and drive business success.

You will need to have:

  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business, or other related scientific or technical discipline is preferred.

  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in more than one of the following: Data Governance, Data Architecture, Master Data Management, Data Products

  • Knowledge of taxonomies, ontologies and semantic standards for data integration

  • Highly motivated self-starter who can work in matrix environment with the confidence and ability to present complex information concisely and effectively to all audiences, including senior leaders and groups

  • Experience designing models to consolidate and analyze structured and unstructured data, from diverse sources including “big data” sources

  • Expertise in data modeling and governance tools, such as Snowflake, Collibra, IDERA/ERwin, ER/Studio, or similar, with an understanding of how they fit into the broader information architecture landscape

  • Strong analytical, logical thinking and organizational skills, backed by a logical approach, and capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously

  • Data warehousing methodologies and modelling techniques (Kimball, 3NF, Star Schema, Dimension modelling, Data Marts, Operational Data Stores)

  • Exceptional verbal and written communication and creative problem-solving skills including the ability to convey data design insights in actionable business terms

We would prefer for you to have:

  • Master’s degree in a technical or healthcare-related field of study

  • Prior experience of 10+ years as a Data/Information Management leader in a global/cross-functional biotech/pharma industry
