The Lead Data Engineer is an integral part of the technical team responsible for GameStop’s Data and BI platforms and their usability and reliability. This role contributes to emerging technologies in data analysis, architecture and development. This role is generally characterized by working levels of scope and independent decision making, with a moderate level of technical complexity.

This position sits onsite 5 days a week in Grapevine, TX.

What you’ll do:

  • Develop a deep understanding of the company's data and how it should be engineered for maximum business value in the self-service and reporting environments.
  • Design, build, and maintain data pipelines to extract, transform, and load ETL data from SAP systems and WMS (Manhattan), enabling data-driven decision-making and analytics.
  • Interprets complex data to inform strategic and tactical initiatives, ensuring clear and effective communication of findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Optimizes SQL table structures, defines critical KPIs, and generates comprehensive reports to drive business decisions.
  • Facilitates ongoing discussions with internal leaders to gather and refine requirements for reporting and analytics needs.
  • Designs and develops robust data models to establish a cohesive semantic layer, ensuring consistency and efficiency in reporting and analysis.
  • Conducts thorough root cause analyses and strategic investigations to address critical business questions.
  • Provide recommendations to management, based on current and emerging technologies, on methods to reduce costs, improve data quality and availability.
  • Interact with various business stakeholders to resolve questions regarding program intent, data input, output requirements and inclusion of internal checks and controls, etc.

What you’ll need:

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in advanced data analytics and data engineering, specializing in designing sophisticated models and tools with optimized SQL table structures, preferably in the Retail industry.
  • 2+ years of professional experience developing dashboards with Power BI, demonstrating advanced knowledge of visualization best practices
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Supply Chain experience preferred.
  • Proficiency in integrating data from various sources, including structured and unstructured data, using technologies such as ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes, data pipelines, and data ingestion frameworks.
  • GBQ experience is a plus.
  • Working in complex projects with multi-tier architecture required.
  • Expert knowledge of relational and dimensional data concepts.
  • Expert knowledge of SQL, including DDL and DML.
  • Proven ability to design and implement end-to-end reporting pipelines at scale, ensuring data integrity and reliability throughout.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence critical business outcomes in a global environment.
  • Adept at architecting, implementing, and supporting analytics data resources.
  • Self-driven, flexible, and highly energetic with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong collaborative skills, capable of working effectively both independently and as part of a team, with a robust analytical and critical thinking mindset.
