Job Description

As part of AbbVie’s Business Technology Solutions (BTS) team, R&D Global Therapeutics is responsible for building and deploying scalable Artificial Intelligence (AI) Applications and Platforms.

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Associate Director, AI Platform Operations, to lead the technical platform scaling and operations of our generative AI solution for document creation.

In this role, you'll help shape the future our AI document creation platform through strategic planning and execution of a platform roadmap spanning the next 3-5 years. Your main responsibility will be expanding the platform operations from R&D to other BTS functions company-wide. This role involves overseeing system operations for robust scalability, managing development operations, and adhering to service level agreements with comprehensive metrics reporting.

You will work closely with data scientists, engineers, and business stakeholders to drive the product vision, strategy, and execution to deliver innovative Generative AI solutions that meet market demands. You will be responsible for defining and prioritizing the platform product backlog, ensuring the development team delivers high-quality features that meet user needs and business goals.

Responsibilities

• Solution Scaling: Extend AI solutions beyond R&D to other BTS functions for organization-wide adoption.
• System Operations Scaling: Manage the scaling of operations to meet increased demand, ensuring resilience, performance, and efficiency.
• Operations Management: Oversee factory operations and enforce service level agreements using detailed metrics for effective reporting.
• Technical Roadmap: Develop and implement a strategic roadmap for platform enhancements and innovations over the next 3-5 years.
• Platform Backlog Management: Prioritize platform enhancements and ensure timely deployment. Participate in agile processes such as sprint planning and reviews.
• Capability Delivery: Ensure timely delivery of platform capabilities, aligned with strategic business goals.
• Generative AI Expertise: Stay updated on AI and machine learning trends, evaluate tools and platforms for development, ensuring scalability and reliability.
• Stakeholder Management: Build relationships across BTOs for successful project implementation, coordinate solution portfolios, and manage interdependencies.
• Investigate Technologies: Explore existing systems and new technologies in the industry, integrating them with the business strategy.
• Collaborative Leadership: Partner with BTOs to inform customers and BTS managers, resolving conflicts and understanding regulatory impacts.

Qualifications

Required: 

• Bachelor's Degree with 9 years’ experience; Master's Degree with 8 years’ experience; PhD with 4 years’ experience in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
• 9+ years experience in project management, business systems analysis, software development or deployment, or software technical product management, with a minimum of 9 years managing projects, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
• Proven experience managing AI platforms, with a focus on generative AI solutions.
• Demonstrated experience in strategic planning and execution of technology platform roadmaps.
• Knowledge of software development best practices with proficiency in Agile methodologies and tools (e.g., JIRA, Confluence).
• Ability to effectively scale system operations to meet growing demands.
• Excellent leadership and team management skills.
• Strong technical background with the ability to understand and discuss technical concepts.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred: 

• Strong understanding of large language models and generative AI technologies.
• Technical writing experience is a plus 
• Experience working in the Life Sciences industry and/or GXP validated systems
