Job Description

The Louis Dreyfus Company Internship Program 2025 is a six-month program that provides students an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in commodity trading industry. The program is designed to equip interns with foundational knowledge and professional skills in one of the company’s business platforms.

As a Sugar Intern, you will be introduced to and become an integral part of our Sugar Research Team. You will work with experienced professionals in Sugar Research Team and interact with colleagues to gain insight into the commodity industry. You will be given the opportunity to collaborate with various stakeholders to develop your own sense of the working environment in the business platform.

In your role, you will leverage your expertise in Python programming, ETL processes, and Dash Enterprise to assist in developing Sugar Prices Dashboard and back-end computations for the Sugar Trading Platform. Your contributions will be key in supporting our sugar commodity trading activities, and overall, our data-driven decision-making processes. You will also face exciting challenges of building data-driven tools used for trading, including pricing calculations, arbitrage models, and market analytics.

Internship duration:

  • Between May to Aug 2025

Main Responsibilities:

  1. Dashboard Development:
    • Develop and implement interactive Prices Dashboard using Dash Enterprise, integrating real-time and historical price data
    • Implement and optimize back-end computations for price analytics and market trends
    • Design and build a CNF (Cost and Freight) calculator
    • Develop a visualisation section for cross-commodity price comparisons and sensitivity studies
    • Work on arbitrage (arb) models, including white sugar import arbitrage, Brazil Raw Sugar vs White Sugar trade-offs, and a consolidated domestic market index
    • Assist in building CFTC KPI tracking tools, if time permits
  2. Data Integration and Cleaning:
    • Extract, transform, and load (ETL) data from various sources (e.g., APIs, databases, spreadsheets)
    • Clean and preprocess data to ensure accuracy and consistency
    • Handle missing values, outliers, and data quality issues
  3. Collaboration:
    • Work closely with cross-functional teams to understand business requirements
    • Collaborate with developers, designers, and product managers to integrate dashboards into existing systems
  4. Documentation and Communication:
    • Document your work, including data sources, methodologies, and assumptions
    • Present findings and insights to stakeholders in a clear and concise manner

Requirements:

  • Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Information Systems, Engineering or related field of study
  • Technical Skills:
    • Proficiency in Python for data manipulation, visualization, and dashboard development
    • Proficiency in Dash (Plotly, Dash Enterprise) for data visualization and dashboard development
    • Familiarity with Power BI 
    • Willingness to learn software development best practices
    • Knowledge of data cleaning techniques and best practices
    • Interest in ETL processes, data modelling, warehousing
  • Analytical Mindset:
    • Ability to analyze complex data sets and derive meaningful insights
    • Strong problem-solving skills
    • Attention to detail
  • Communication Skills:
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
    • Ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
  • Other Skills & Knowledge:
    • Willingness to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment
    • Interest and knowledge in Data Science, Financial Modeling, Research within agricultural commodity sector is a plus
