The Medical AI Lead is responsible for driving AI integration, adoption, and innovation within US Medical and Medical Affairs in alignment with the AI CoE and global AI initiatives. This role will enhance team capabilities, optimize engagement with healthcare professionals (HCPs), and improve data-driven decision-making. The US Medical AI Lead will collaborate with various teams to ensure AI solutions are compliant, impactful, and aligned with business goals and broader organizational strategies.
Duties & Responsibilities
AI Expertise & Enablement:
- Serves as the primary AI expert within Medicine with a focus on Medical Affairs, supporting teams with AI-related inquiries, use cases, and enhancements.
- Develops and leads AI training programs, in alignment with the AI CoE, to upskill Medical Affairs professionals and foster a culture of AI adoption.
- Collaborates with IT, Data Science, and Regulatory teams to ensure AI tools are compliant, efficient, and impactful.
- Drives change management efforts for AI integration across Medicine and Medical Affairs, ensuring seamless adoption.
- Translates business needs into AI-driven Minimum Viable Products (MVPs), demonstrating an entrepreneurial mindset to deliver value quickly and iteratively.
AI Solutions & Innovation:
- Identifies, executes, and manages AI-driven projects to improve Medical Affairs operations and enhance customer engagement.
- Assesses and implements emerging AI technologies to drive innovation and develop AI-powered decision support solutions for internal medical teams and cross-functional collaboration.
- Acts as a liaison with external AI vendors, startups, and research institutions to explore new capabilities and ensure successful AI project execution.
- Works closely with the CoE, Medical, IT, and Data Science teams to align AI initiatives with global strategies and ensure consistent, scalable, and compliant AI deployment.
AI Governance & Compliance:
- In line with the AI CoE, establishes and maintains AI governance frameworks, ensuring transparency, ethical AI use, and regulatory compliance within Medical Affairs.
- Works closely with Legal and Compliance teams to manage AI-related risks, approvals, and data privacy concerns.
- Ensures AI adoption aligns with Boehringer Ingelheim strategic goals, digital transformation initiatives, and industry best practices.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution and five (5) years professional experience in a technical, scientific, clinical, and/or health sciences space; Master's Degree in data science/AI preferred.
- Proven expertise in AI, with an understanding of its applications within healthcare and/or pharma industries.
- Familiarity with Medicine and Medical Affairs operations, including Medical Science Liaisons (MSLs), regulatory requirements, and stakeholder engagement, is a strong asset.
- Proficiency in data science and AI applications.
- Strong stakeholder management skills, with experience collaborating with cross-functional teams.
- Excellent change management skills, with a proven track record of driving AI education, training, and implementation.
- Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to translate business needs into AI-driven MVPs, delivering value quickly and iteratively.
- This position may be remote and may require travel of upwards of 20%.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without restriction.
- Must be willing to take a drug test and post-offer physical (if required).
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
Compensation
