Organizational Overview: Synchrony's Risk Team provides independent oversight of Synchrony’s risk-taking activities to ensure safety and soundness, meet regulatory and legal requirements, and manage risks to the risk-appetite of the Board. Risk is responsible for independently assessing, quantifying, and overseeing risks & providing effective challenge. Risk serves as Synchrony’s Second Line of Defense.   

Overall, Risk Team oversees and manages the Risk Program to support the business in anticipating and addressing risks, issues and challenges. Results are consistent with the respective strategic uses and complying with related overall risk, risk testing policies, standards, procedures as well as regulations. Our Risk organization consists of 4 pillars: Compliance, Credit & Financial Risk, Enterprise Risk and Operational Risk. Each of the pillars play a vital role in managing Risk and supports the business in anticipating and addressing risks, issues, and challenges.
 

Role Summary/Purpose: The VP, Enterprise Risk Analytics will be the Process Owner for Enterprise Risk Reporting & Analytics  and will be responsible for managing, growing, and leading a team of 10+ analysts in India. As a Process Owner the VP, Enterprise Risk Analytics will be responsible for leading the day-to-day operations that are fundamental to process execution, and will own the Risk and Control Self-Assessment which includes RAQ, PRCSA, and process universe maintenance. As an Analytics Leader, this role will further lead analytical and reporting projects, design analyses, and present recommendations to leaders across Risk. The selected candidate will lead the Enterprise Risk Analytics Team in India, reporting directly to the VP – Risk India Leader. This role will additionally have a “dotted line” of reporting to the VP – Enterprise Risk Analytics within the Enterprise Risk organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead a team of 10+ analytics professionals and support the planning and execution of oversight activities while providing mentorship, guidance, engagement, career pathing and development opportunities

  • Assume the role of Process Owner for Enterprise Risk Reporting & Analytics, including leading the Risks & Controls Self-Assessment process and managing the Process Universe

  • Take a hands-on approach to analytics by owning and executing analytics projects from end-to-end, including data exploration, data mining, statistical analysis, and project delivery

  • Provide thought leadership and establish a standardized Enterprise Risk Analytics process; assist with developing policies, procedures for Enterprise Risk Analytics and provide guidance on strengthening governance across team

  • Capacity plan and time manage the team using a priority and skills-based approach

  • Provide thought leadership for Risk India wide projects, external conferences, offsite agenda and promote mentorship, upskilling and growth.

  • Use data and analytics to help support the closure of critical, time-sensitive projects such as regulatory requests and matters requiring attention (MRA)

  • Drive extended usage of analytics to gain more efficiencies and effectiveness within risk management processes and activities

  • Lead analytic team to deliver complex projects from beginning to end, including ideation, data mining, insight generation, and presentation of results and recommendations

  • Partner with and provide thought leadership and technical expertise to guide the India Risk Analytics Team on optimal, efficient, and quick analytical solutions to business problems

  • Promote innovation and proactively look for and identify opportunities to solve risk problems with integrated analytics solutions

  • Partner with other Analytics/Functional leaders outside of Risk (e.g. Ops, Credit, Growth etc.) to identify and apply best practices from Synchrony related to use of analytics in general, tools, processes

  • Work with other Risk functions across the second line of defense, including Model Development & Governance, Operational Risk, Risk Testing, Compliance, and Credit Risk to increase awareness of analytics results, create synergies and avoid redundancies.

  • Serve as an Analytics Subject Matter Expert for Risk

  • Support VP – Risk India Leader with department-wide initiatives as needed

  • Perform other duties and/or special projects as assigned

Required Skills/Knowledge:

  • Bachelor’s degree in statistics, mathematics, economics, finance, business, engineering, or other quantitative fields with 10+ years of experience OR, MBA or Master’s degree in a STEM field and in lieu of degree, a high school diploma/GED and 12+ years of data analytics experience in financial services and/or payments industry.

  • A minimum of 10+ years of data analytics experience to include:

    • 5+ years of analytic leadership/managerial experience within Financial Services or payments industry

    • 5+ years developing and implementing analytical solutions / automation / optimization capabilities

    • 5+ years hands-on experience with SAS, Python, R, and/or SQL

    • 2+ years hands-on experience with data visualization/BI tools, e.g. Tableau, Birst, Power BI, SAS VIYA                                 

    • 2+ years of project management experience

Desired Skills/Knowledge:

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, organize work flow and timelines.

  • Experience leading development and management of centralized analytic capabilities & tools 

  • Experience using JIRA or similar project management tool for intake, project planning, and issues tracking

  • Solid understanding of the consumer credit lending lifecycle and card programs.

  • Advanced reasoning skills in conjunction with an intimate understanding of how consumer credit systems work and how their outflows tie into the data warehouse.

  • Ability to develop executable strategies, build and lead teams, articulate a clear vision, and deliver results at committed timeline

  • Ability to ideate, design and lead development of central analytic capabilities and solutions that are highly scalable

  • Strong oral and written communication skills with impact and influence

  • Strong understanding of the consumer credit lending lifecycle and card programs

  • Commercially effective and collaborative across teams and functions.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage complexity/ambiguity and multiple initiatives

  • Ability to be hands on as well as coach teams in developing analytic capabilities and tools

  • 8+ years’ experience with SAS/SQL or other transferable logic based programming.

  • Advanced EXCEL skill-set.

  • Bachelor’s degree in statistics, mathematics, economics, finance, business, engineering, or other quantitative fields with 10+ years of experience OR, MBA or Master’s degree in a STEM field and in lieu of degree, a high school diploma/GED and 12+ years of data analytics experience in financial services and/or payments industry.

Work Timings: This role qualifies for Enhanced Flexibility and Choice offered in Synchrony India and will require the incumbent to be available between 06:00 AM Eastern Time – 11:30 AM Eastern Time (timings are anchored to US Eastern hours and will adjust twice a year locally). This window is for meetings with India and US teams. The remaining hours will be flexible for the employee to choose. Exceptions may apply periodically due to business needs.
