Risk Management is an independent function within CommBank which is accountable for providing approval and acceptance of decisions to ensure the Group remains within its risk appetite. The Technology and Operations (Tech & Ops) Risk team is responsible for providing specialist Operational Risk and Compliance (OR&C) advice, assurance, and acceptance/approval of decisions made across the Technology, Chief Operations Office (COO), and Supplier Support Units.

As a Senior Data Analyst, you will be a member of a team of technology and operations risk professionals that provides Operational Risk & Compliance Support to the Technology and Security divisions. The Analytics team is of strategic importance to the Tech & Ops Risk Management team, being responsible for leveraging data engineering and data analytics to enhance and expand tech risk processes to provide greater assurance for Technology and Operations within CommBank.

Key responsibilities for this role include:

• Liaise with data product owners to develop an understanding of infrastructures, identify consumable data sets, and design the architecture of data assets within the AWS cloud platform.

• Collaborate with SMEs from Business, Risk, and Analytics to ensure data-driven decision-making.

• Develop and maintain dashboards and reports to support continuous monitoring and comprehensive reporting.

• Identify trends, patterns, and anomalies in data to provide actionable insights for Tech & Ops risks

• Integrate data from various sources into a unified data source.

• Build and maintain data pipelines to ensure data is analytically ready and is optimised to run efficiently and reliably

• Implement data governance and security measures to protect sensitive information.

We’re interested in hearing from people who have:

• 3-6 years’ experience in a Data Analytics, Data Engineering, Technical Business Analyst, Data Scientist role within Banking and Financial services.

• Experience with programming languages and business intelligence tools (e.g., Python, R, SQL, Tableau, PowerBI) for data analysis.

• Proficiency in data modelling and database design, including data warehousing concepts.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with strong stakeholder management skills.

• Understanding of data governance and data quality best practices.

• Proficiency in data integration and ETL processes.

• Strong knowledge of database management systems (e.g., SQL, NoSQL).

• Familiarity with using cloud platforms for data analysis or building data pipelines.

• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills along with excellent communication and collaboration skills.

• Highly desirable to have Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, e.g. Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Economics, Engineering

• A high interest in risk management and technology risk to enhance data-driven insights.
