Job Overview
This internship will focus on applying machine learning techniques on large-scale data for the design and discovery of antibody targets. You will work in a multidisciplinary, international team of scientists with expertise in antibody development, data analysis, and machine learning. Your contributions will help advance the discovery and development of groundbreaking therapeutics. There is flexibility in this project for you to shape your contributions based on your expertise and interests.
Responsibilities
- Conduct exploratory data analysis and statistical analyses.
- Apply and evaluate machine learning models for antibody design and discovery, experimenting with different methods, parameters, and datasets.
- Contribute to shared codebases, ensuring your code is clear, robust, reusable, and scalable.
- Collaborate with colleagues, exchanging ideas and participating in scientific and technical discussions.
- Clearly communicate complex results, translating technical concepts into intuitive explanations for a diverse scientific audience.
- Work productively in a multicultural, multidisciplinary team while maintaining a positive attitude and well-being in the workplace.
Requirements
- Currently enrolled in a Master’s degree program or a HBO at a Dutch university in Data/Computer Science, Machine Learning, Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, or a related field.
- Available for a minimum of 6 months.
- Proficiency in Python (experience with PyTorch/TensorFlow, as well as pandas, numpy, seaborn, scikit-learn).
- Strong understanding of statistics and fundamental machine learning principles.
- Familiarity with version control systems such as Git.
- A proactive, creative, and goal-oriented mindset with the ability to work independently.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with fluency in English (both written and spoken).
Preferred Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills
- Experience with cloud computing environments such as Databricks or AWS.
- Familiarity with MLOps platforms like MLflow or Weights & Biases.
- Domain knowledge in protein science, particularly antibodies.
- Proficiency in molecular modeling, protein structure prediction, and computational methods for structural analysis (experience with Rosetta, PyMOL, or similar tools).

- Internship duration: 6-12 months.
- Start date: September 1st.
- Location: Utrecht, Netherlands
- Hybrid schedule: 3 days in the office, 2 days remote per week.
