Optimisation and Trading Analytical Team
The team is part of a wider Quantitative Modelling and Analytics team and is a dynamic group of 10 professionals based in both Paris and London. Our team’s primary mission is to develop sophisticated market forecasting models and asset optimisation tools. These tools are instrumental in supporting EDF Trading’s proprietary activities and optimising the EDF Group portfolio. The team efforts are directed towards both the short-term electricity markets as well as the longer-term horizon and other commodities. We work closely with the trading desks and other analyst teams in both locations, fostering a collaborative environment that drives our success.
Position purpose
Supply and demand orders are at the core of the short-term price determination algorithm operating in the Pan-European electricity markets. The main objective of the internship is to contribute to backtesting and analysing results of our price forecasting models to inform trading desks of model performance and suggest relevant settings.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to acquire and/or consolidate their knowledge about energy trading and the mechanics of power markets, which will be a prerequisite to provide insightful analysis based on our model results. They will also contribute to improving our backtesting platform by adding additional features in an existing in-house Python application.

Main responsibilities
Backtesting and analysis of complex market modelling and price forecasting results and presentation to EDFT power desks
Contributing to the development of our existing backtesting platform
Person specifications and professional requirements
Knowledge of probability/statistics
Strong analytical skills
Knowledge or desire to learn Python programming
Interest in energy markets
Good communication skills
Duration:
3-4 months, starting May or June 2024
Hours of work:
35 hours/week, Monday to Friday
