Tanium is seeking a Data Scientist Intern to join our dynamic team, working on Tanium’s cutting-edge Autonomous Endpoint Management platform. This role will focus on leveraging Data, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) to enhance our endpoint management solutions. As a Data Scientist Intern, you will have the opportunity to work on challenging real-world problems, gain hands-on experience, and contribute to building intelligent, automated systems that will shape the future of endpoint management.
This is a hybrid position, which will require in person attendance several days each week in Durham, NC.
The hourly rate for this internship is $55 per hour. This hourly rate is an estimate for what Tanium will pay an intern. The actual rate offered may be adjusted based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, education, skills, training, and experience. In addition to an hourly rate, interns will be eligible for a housing stipend, 401k matching, and a monthly allowance for communications reimbursement.
What you’ll do:
- Collaborate with the data science and engineering teams to design and implement AI and ML algorithms that improve Tanium’s autonomous endpoint management capabilities.
- Analyze large-scale endpoint data to extract meaningful insights and develop predictive models.
- Develop and evaluate machine learning models for anomaly detection, threat identification, and performance optimization.
- Assist in building data pipelines to efficiently process and analyze endpoint data at scale.
- Create and deploy AI/ML solutions that can autonomously identify and manage endpoints, improving security, compliance, and operational efficiency.
- Conduct exploratory data analysis and visualizations to communicate findings and inform product development decisions.
- Document research, methodologies, and results to contribute to Tanium’s knowledge base.
- Stay up to date with the latest advancements in AI, ML, and endpoint management technologies.
We’re looking for someone with:
- Authorized to work in the U.S. now and in the future
- Available to work full-time from June 9, 2024 to August 15, 2025
- A currently enrolled Bachelor's/ Master’s degree candidate, ideally studying Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Engineering, or a related field with a 3.5+ GPA
- Graduating Spring 2026 or Fall 2025
- Strong foundation in machine learning, data analysis, and statistics.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, or similar.
- Familiarity with machine learning frameworks and libraries (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit-learn, etc.).
- Experience working with large datasets, data manipulation, and data wrangling.
- Knowledge of AI/ML techniques for anomaly detection, classification, and prediction.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to present complex ideas clearly.
- Passion for technology, cybersecurity, and autonomous systems.
