Located in the Office of College and Career Success (OCCS), the Department of Early College and Career Education (ECCE) provides CPS students with opportunities to take career and college courses while in high school, saving them time and money while pursuing their post-secondary education.
Job Summary:
Reporting to the Data Quality Management Team Lead, the Data Analyst contributes to a diverse array of projects that support the goal of creating access to college and career instruction, advising, and ultimately enrollment in a postsecondary pathway for all CPS students. This position designs and implements data collection and reporting systems to continuously enhance the quality and breadth of data-informed decisions and communications. Additionally, the Data Analyst conducts analyses to inform day-to-day practice, support strategy, and policy, and monitor key program and student outcomes. The Data Analyst will also serve as the internal lead on accessing key CPS data systems and will be responsible for managing on-demand data requests to answer key questions about the initiatives and operations of ECCE. This is a full-time exempt position that will be paid for time worked on a salary basis.
This position will be held accountable for the following responsibilities:
· Proficiently prepare, analyze, manipulate, and transform complex datasets from multiple sources using tools such as SQL, Javascript/Google Apps Script, Python, or R
· Develop dashboards in PowerBI, Looker Studio, and Google Sheets to visualize and disseminate information on ECCE programs and services
· Collaborate with the data team lead to develop and implement data analysis plans, including using statistical techniques to analyze distributions, correlations, trends, etc.
· Develop data management plans to enable efficient data access and reporting
· Prepare reports for grants, funders, external research partners, and internal staff upon request.
· Ensure data quality and integrity across departments
· Prepare and disseminate analysis reports, briefs, and presentations; communicate results meaningfully to various audiences, both internal and external
· in workgroups with internal staff and external partners to support strategic planning, continuous improvement, and the development of new initiatives
· Participate in the District’s Data Analyst User Group
· Other duties as assigned
In order to be successful and achieve the above responsibilities, this position must possess the following qualifications:
Education Required:
· Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university is required; Focus in education, measurement, psychology, social science, public policy, economics, or a related field requiring quantitative coursework preferred.
· Master’s degree preferred
Experience Required:
· Minimum of two (2) years of professional experience in a role primarily requiring data analysis is required
· Experience writing code and/or using data analytic tools (SAS, R, Python, SPSS, STATA, etc)
· Minimum of one (1) year of experience as a business analyst or systems analyst preferred
· Experience presenting data analysis to stakeholder groups with different levels of technical expertise preferred
Other Requirements:
· Adhere to a set of guiding principles for analytic practice as established by the Data Governance Council
· Work with approved enterprise analytic tool sets (SAS, SQL)
· Follow established department and district-wide processes to ensure the quality, integrity, and reliability of data used for analysis
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
· Ability to use or learn the following tools/languages required:
· SAS
· SQL
· Google Workspace (G-Suite) applications
· Experience with or ability to learn the following tools/languages is strongly preferred:
· Javascript/Google App Script
· PowerBI
· Looker Studio
· Exceptional organizational, communication (oral and written), and problem-solving skills
· Strong attention to detail and data quality assurance
· Ability to deliver high-quality results in a fast-paced environment, respond immediately to multiple constituencies and meet established deadlines
· Able to perform independently under general guidance and as part of a team
· Capable of coordinating efforts and collaborating with a variety of individuals having conflicting agendas
· Ability to establish priorities and manage multiple activities while meeting established deadlines
· Ability to work in a cross-functional team with technical and non-technical personnel from a variety of departments
· Flexibility to meet changing departmental needs and priorities
· Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously
· Adheres to a high level of professionalism at all times across professional interactions (ie- meets deadlines, is responsive to communications and requests, etc.)
Conditions of Employment
As a condition of employment with the Chicago Public Schools (CPS), employees are required to:
· Establish/Maintain Chicago Residency - Employees are required to live within the geographic boundaries of the City of Chicago within six months of their CPS hire date and maintain residency throughout their employment with the district. The Chicago residency requirement does not apply to temporary/part-time positions, however, all CPS employees must be residents of Illinois.
