EPE is seeking a highly skilled Principal Software Engineer to lead the design, development, and implementation of automation solutions serving EPE’s consultants in the electric utility (T&D) and power industry. The successful candidate will be responsible for architecting and maintaining robust automation frameworks, improving internal processes through smart and reliable software solutions with an eye on productizing these solutions. This includes the integration of disparate software systems to create a seamless workflow, reducing the time and effort required for data transfer and manipulation. Additionally, the engineer will be responsible for the creation of sophisticated results processing pipelines, enabling the rapid and reliable generation of insights from complex datasets. The development of advanced visualization tools will further aid in the interpretation and presentation of results, allowing engineers and stakeholders to make informed decisions based on clear, comprehensive graphical representations of data.

 

 

 

How you can make an impact:

 

Software Development & Architecture:

  • Lead the development of scalable software solutions incorporating automation to enhance consulting team process efficiency.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure automation aligns with business needs and enhances user experience.

  • Develop scalable solutions that can dynamically adjust to increasing consulting client work and effectively manage multiple requests to optimize computational resources.

  • Architect and implement cloud-native automation strategies, ensuring seamless integration with existing software platforms.

 

Technical Leadership & Mentorship:

  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers and other team members.
  • Act as a technical resource and liaison for the consulting team to understand trade-offs in technical solutions, and to ensure business technology alignment
  • Stay updated on the latest trends in software automation, and cloud computing, and integrate new technologies where applicable.
  • Lead code reviews and enforce best practices for automated software development and deployment.
  • Use modern software development techniques like CI/CD, TDD, automated testing to ensure software engineering quality and maximize delivery velocity

Security & Compliance:

  • Implement automated security tools and frameworks to detect vulnerabilities early in the development lifecycle.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and best practices through automated enforcement mechanisms.

 

Qualifications

Bring your passion, here's what’s needed:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.

  • 8+ years of experience in software development, including 7+ years of experience in automation, DevOps, and cloud-native architectures.

  • Proven expertise in designing and implementing automation solutions for large-scale software systems.

  • Proven experience in automating analytical business processes.

  • Strong programming skills in Python (pandas, FastAPI, etc) with experience in developing automation scripts and frameworks and user interactivity

  • In-depth knowledge of cloud services, particularly AWS, and experience in building serverless automation solutions.

  • Experience with observability and monitoring tools such as New Relic, Grafana, or ELK Stack for automated system monitoring.

  • Experience with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, GitLab, etc.

  • Hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like Terraform or Ansible.

  • Experience with containerization and orchestration technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.

     

 

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Experience with machine learning automation for predictive analytics and optimization.
  • Familiarity with ArcGIS and geospatial data automation is a plus.
  • Experience developing software for the power and energy industry is highly desirable.
  • Experience with integrating multiple data sources into end-use processes

Location: This position is open to remote

Travel:  Occasional travel may be needed (10% or less)
