JOB DESCRIPTION – Director of Artificial Intelligence and Innovation

DEPARTMENT: AI & Innovation

POSITION TITLE: Director of Artificial Intelligence and Innovation

SUPERVISOR: Executive Vice Chancellor for Administration

PURPOSE: The AI Coordinator at LSUA is responsible for overseeing and guiding all AI-related activities across campus, ensuring a cohesive and strategic approach to integrating artificial intelligence into instruction, academic integrity, operations, and innovation. This role leads a cross-campus AI Task Force, fosters collaboration among departments, and drives the adoption of AI technologies to enhance efficiency, learning, and research. By staying at the forefront of AI advancements, the AI Coordinator ensures LSUA remains a leader in responsible and forward-thinking AI implementation while maintaining ethical standards and compliance with institutional policies.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Strategic Leadership & Oversight

  • Develop and implement LSUA’s AI strategies across all campus functions.
  • Lead an AI Task Force, ensuring cross-campus alignment and collaboration.
  • Provide strategic guidance on AI-related policies, opportunities, and risks.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for AI-related initiatives and partnerships.

Instructional & Academic Integrity

  • Support faculty in integrating AI tools into curriculum and pedagogy.
  • Develop guidelines for responsible AI use in academic settings.
  • Monitor AI’s impact on student learning and assessment integrity.
  • Provide training and resources on AI ethics and best practices.

Operational Efficiencies & Innovation

  • Identify opportunities to enhance campus operations through AI-driven efficiencies.
  • Collaborate with IT and administration to implement AI-driven automation.
  • Oversee AI applications in administrative tasks, customer service, and data analysis.
  • Evaluate and recommend AI tools to improve institutional effectiveness.

AI Research & Leading-Edge Innovation

  • Stay informed on emerging AI trends and their potential applications at LSUA.
  • Encourage and support faculty and student AI research projects.
  • Foster partnerships with external organizations for AI collaboration.
  • Advocate for AI funding opportunities and grant proposals.

Cross-Campus Coordination & Communication

  • Ensure consistency in AI adoption across academic and administrative units.
  • Facilitate knowledge-sharing and AI literacy among faculty, staff, and students.
  • Organize workshops, forums, and training sessions on AI advancements.
  • Act as a liaison between departments to streamline AI-related initiatives.

Policy Development & Compliance

  • Assist in drafting and maintaining AI policies in alignment with university standards.
  • Ensure AI tools comply with legal, ethical, and accreditation requirements.
  • Address concerns related to data privacy, security, and AI transparency.
  • Monitor and evaluate AI-related risks, ensuring responsible usage.

Assessment & Continuous Improvement

  • Measure the effectiveness of AI initiatives through data analysis and reporting.
  • Develop key performance indicators (KPIs) for AI-related projects.
  • Adjust AI strategies based on feedback, assessment, and technological advancements.
  • Provide periodic reports to university leadership on AI impact and progress.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree preferred in a relevant field such as Computer Science, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Information Systems, Educational Technology, or a related discipline.
  • Experience in AI applications, instructional technology, data analytics, or a related area in higher education or industry preferred.
  • Ability to respond professionally to inquiries or complaints from university faculty, staff, administration, regulatory agencies, and external stakeholders.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and university employees.
  • Effective presentation skills, including the ability to translate complex AI concepts for diverse audiences.
  • Working knowledge or better of artificial intelligence applications, including machine learning, natural language processing, and AI-powered tools for education and operations.
  • Familiarity with AI ethics, data privacy, security, and compliance considerations in an academic setting.
  • Self-motivated, independent, and capable of driving initiatives with minimal supervision.
  • Flexible, creative, and adaptable to emerging AI trends and university needs.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to foster innovation across multiple departments.

HOURS:  Eight (8) hours per day, Monday–Friday 40 hours a week. Additional hours worked as needed.
