Join Takeda as a Data Engineer to revolutionize our pharmaceutical development processes through advanced digital solutions. In this role, you'll build intelligent data infrastructure that transforms physical processes into digital workflows, enabling data-driven decision making for drug, device, and combination product development.

How You Will Contribute:

Digital Infrastructure Development

  • Design and implement robust data architectures supporting drug-device combination product development lifecycle

  • Partner with data scientists to develop infrastructure for contextualizing, organizing, visualizing, and storing generated data

  • Enable autonomous and intelligent process development through advanced data engineering solutions

  • Identify opportunities to convert physical development activities to digital platforms

Data Engineering & Analytics

  • Process and analyze large datasets using advanced methods to extract meaningful insights

  • Develop automated data collection workflows using varied automation tools, from traditional platforms to complex software solutions

  • Design and implement data models that automate business and quality processes

  • Create dashboards and visualization tools for cross-functional stakeholders

Simulation & Modeling

  • Utilize simulation frameworks to predict the behavior of biological, chemical, and physical systems

  • Implement and test computational models for drug-device interactions

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Serve as a technical expert within Drug Product and Device Development (DPDD) and across Pharmaceutical Sciences (PS) within Research and Development

  • Collaborate with drug product scientists, device engineers, test engineers, and process development teams

  • Represent Takeda in pre-competitive collaborations with academic and industrial partners

Innovation & Continuous Improvement

  • Stay current with advancements in data science and machine learning techniques

  • Incorporate novel automation technologies into scientific strategy development

  • Optimize existing workflows to accelerate process development and understanding

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:
  • PhD in engineering or related pharmaceutical science with 2+ years of relevant industry experience, or

  • Master's degree in engineering or related pharmaceutical science with 6+ years of relevant industry experience, or

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related pharmaceutical science with 8+ years of relevant industry experience

  • Demonstrated expertise in data engineering, architecture, and pipeline development

  • Proficiency in programming languages (Python, R, SQL) and data visualization tools

  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and containerization technologies

  • Knowledge of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) applications in pharmaceutical development

  • Experience with computational modeling and simulation in medical device or pharmaceutical areas

Professional Qualities

  • Proven scientific track record through conference presentations and peer-reviewed publications

  • Strong problem-solving skills with attention to detail

  • Excellent communication and presentation abilities

  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and in multidisciplinary teams

  • Project management skills to align scientific efforts with company and program goals

  • Position may require approximately 10% travel

Takeda Compensation and Benefits Summary

We understand compensation is an important factor as you consider the next step in your career. We are committed to equitable pay for all employees, and we strive to be more transparent with our pay practices.

Lexington, MA

U.S. Base Salary Range:

$133,000.00 - $209,000.00

The estimated salary range reflects an anticipated range for this position. The actual base salary offered may depend on a variety of factors, including the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job. The actual base salary offered will be in accordance with state or local minimum wage requirements for the job location. 

U.S. based employees may be eligible for short-term and/ or long-term incentives. U.S. based employees may be eligible to participate in medical, dental, vision insurance, a 401(k) plan and company match, short-term and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, a tuition reimbursement program, paid volunteer time off, company holidays, and well-being benefits, among others. U.S. based employees are also eligible to receive, per calendar year, up to 80 hours of sick time, and new hires are eligible to accrue up to 120 hours of paid vacation.
