We are seeking a Research Scientist specializing in gas sensing, detection, and flow modeling using gas dispersion simulation with broad expertise in building computational fluid dynamics simulations and generate synthetic data that can be used for training AI models. The ideal candidate will contribute to the research, design, implementation and validation of simulated gas detection systems that allow for flexible and dynamic “what if” scenarios. This role requires hands-on experimentation, modeling, simulation implementation and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.

Gas Dispersion Simulation and Experimentation:

  • Design and conduct experimental studies on gas flow dynamics and dispersion in various environments and create computational fluid dynamics (CFD) models
  • Validating models with experimental data and giving guidance on experimental design and data acquisition for gas detection systems
  • Strong background in CFD, thermal modeling, and sensing technologies (including electrochemical, optical, and infrared sensors)
  • Hands-on experience in experimental research and prototyping, including designing and running lab experiments
  • Collaborate with hardware engineers to provide input on sensor module design and integration, ensuring optimal performance for data acquisition.
  • Ability to process and analyze experimental data
  • Experience with machine learning and statistical modeling for predictive analytics
  • Skilled at turning experimental findings into predictive models for real-world applications
  • Generate innovative insight for use in technical reports and research publications
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to refine sensing technology solutions
  • Prepare technical documentation, patents, and research publications
  • Support the transition from research prototypes to commercial-scale products

Required:

  • Ph.D. or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Environmental Science, Computational Fluid Dynamics, Artificial Intelligence, or a related field.
  • Strong experience in gas flow modeling, CFD simulations, and experimental gas sensing techniques.
  • Proficiency in CFD software (OpenFOAM, ANSYS Fluent, COMSOL, EnergyPlus).
  • Expertise in machine learning frameworks (TensorFlow, PyTorch, Scikit-Learn) and data processing (NumPy, Pandas, MATLAB).
  • Programming experience in Python, C++, Blender, MATLAB or Julia.
  • Knowledge of sensor calibration, uncertainty quantification, and signal processing.
  • Familiarity with IoT-based gas sensing networks and real-time monitoring.
  • Strong communication and writing skills with a track record of scientific publications.

It would nice if you also had:

  • Experience in AI-driven CFD acceleration (Physics-Informed Neural Networks, surrogate modeling).
  • Knowledge of indoor air quality modeling and HVAC systems.
  • Hands-on experience with autonomous drones or robots for gas sensing.
  • Understanding of environmental regulations and compliance standards.

Why Join Us?

  • Work on cutting-edge gas sensing technologies with real-world applications in environmental monitoring, industrial safety, and healthcare among others
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of experts in a dynamic research environment
  • Opportunity to contribute to innovative solutions that have a global impact
