About the role

We are seeking a Financial Data Governance Engineer who is detail-oriented and passionate about data and ensuring its accuracy, security, and compliance. In this role, you will design data governance frameworks, implement data standards, and build/maintain data pipelines. You will also monitor and validate large-scale data sources—particularly in the ETF and broader financial space—with an emphasis on regulatory compliance (SEC and FINRA). Additionally, you will play a strategic advisory role to the Head of IT, leveraging your in-depth financial knowledge to shape data-related policies and best practices across the organization.

What you'll do

1. Data Governance & Compliance

  • Develop and maintain comprehensive data governance frameworks, ensuring alignment with SEC and FINRA regulations.
  • Create and enforce policies for data usage, privacy, and security across the organization.
  • Implement processes for classifying, archiving, retaining, and securely disposing of data based on sensitivity and business value.
  • Continuously monitor and validate data correctness to maintain regulatory standards and high-quality data operations.

2. Data Architecture & Pipeline Development

  • Design, build, and maintain cloud-based data pipelines and architectures in AWS (or equivalent), leveraging tools such as Snowflake for data warehousing.
  • Integrate various financial data sources, including Bloomberg APIs, custodial feeds, and fund administration data, ensuring high reliability and scalability.
  • Oversee data collection, cleaning, and preparation from databases, APIs, and other external systems.
  • Continuously monitor data pipelines for performance, errors, and anomalies, implementing proactive solutions to minimize downtime.

3. Data Standardization & Quality Assurance

  • Establish rules and best practices to ensure data accuracy, consistency, and completeness across financial datasets.
  • Implement validation methods and robust data checks, minimizing discrepancies in real-time and batch data flows.
  • Conduct exploratory data analyses to detect patterns, anomalies, and opportunities for improved efficiency or quality.

4. Analytics & Reporting

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (finance, operations, product) to gather data requirements and develop actionable insights.
  • Build and maintain interactive dashboards and data visualizations in Sigma (or similar BI tools) to facilitate real-time business decisions.
  • Provide strategic, data-backed recommendations to leadership, helping shape Tidal’s data-driven culture.

5. Strategic Advising & Collaboration

  • Serve as a key resource and advisor to the Head of IT on data governance strategies, implementation roadmaps, and best practices.
  • Work using Agile methodologies, collaborating closely with teams via GitHub and other modern development tools.
  • Continuously research emerging data technologies and finance-industry trends, recommending innovations that could enhance Tidal’s data infrastructure.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of professional experience in data engineering, data governance, or a closely related role.

Technical Skills

  • Proficient in Python and SQL, with proven experience building and managing data pipelines.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS preferred) and data warehousing technologies (Snowflake, etc.).
  • Strong understanding of financial industry data—especially ETFs, trading-related data, and Bloomberg APIs.
  • Experience with BI tools (Sigma, Power BI, Tableau, or similar) for dashboards and data visualization.
  • Solid grasp of Agile methodologies, version control (Git/GitHub), and modern development best practices.

Financial Domain & Governance Expertise

  • Familiarity with SEC and FINRA regulations and compliance standards.
  • Comfort working with custodians and fund administration data for ETFs or similar financial products.
  • Experience establishing and enforcing data governance policies around data privacy, usage, classification, and retention.

Soft Skills

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills; able to work effectively in cross-functional, fast-paced environments.
  • Detail-oriented, with a strong commitment to data quality, accuracy, and security.
  • Strategic, proactive thinker who can advise leadership on opportunities for improvement in data practices.

We are prioritizing candidates who are located within close proximity to Chicago, Milwaukee, NYC, and West Palm Beach.
