Help us use technology to make a big green dent in the universe!
Kraken powers some of the most innovative global developments in energy.
We’re a technology company focused on creating a smart, sustainable energy system. From optimising renewable generation, creating a more intelligent grid and enabling utilities to provide excellent customer experiences, our operating system for energy is transforming the industry around the world in a way that benefits everyone.
It’s a really exciting time in energy. Help us make a real impact on shaping a better, more sustainable future.
Kraken Customer
What we do: build the most AI-driven, innovative, forward-thinking platform for energy management. From optimizing resources to delivering cost-effective, exceptional customer experiences through advanced Customer Information Systems (CIS), billing, meter data management, CRM, and AI-driven communications, Kraken is powering the next wave of innovation in the energy industry.
Why we do it: future energy will not look like energy as we know it today. We need to not just think about our future, but build for it. Now.
At Kraken we’ve developed a data platform that provides data services to our developers, analysts, and clients. The platform enables self-service of data analytics to hundreds of data hungry users as well as automation of all our data workflows from simple ETL jobs to ML training and prediction.
The data platform team works across many Kraken product lines on anything from natural language understanding of our customer communications to processing billions of smart meter readings to building customised smart energy tariffs.
As the volume, scope and geographical range of our data services rapidly expand, we’re looking for an experienced product manager to join the team to help us build a highly scalable, and robust data platform and data products.
This is a fantastic opportunity to work on data problems that genuinely move us closer to Net Zero with a company that is passionate about building great technology to change the way customers use energy.

What you'll do

  • Work closely with stakeholders across the business (Sales, Client Delivery, Product) and carry out user and market research to define the product strategy and ensure it aligns with business objectives, evolving needs and regulatory requirements across different markets
  • Identify and own ways to measure the success of your domain, use these to effectively communicate the value of your team’s delivery
  • Work with the development team to shape the high-level roadmap and prioritise feature development across the platform
  • Drive the delivery of the roadmap by supporting the work of the development team using agile tooling and running ceremonies
  • Coordinate across product teams to proactively manage dependencies and drive cross team collaboration to deliver outcomes
  • Act as the bridge between technical teams and business stakeholders
  • Contribute to embedding product practice across Kraken with processes and frameworks

What you'll need

  • To be able to recognise what needs to be done (and, just as importantly, what doesn’t need to be done right now) based on the overall goals of the team and our strategic direction.
  • Experience in data products, and an understanding of how data systems work at a low level
  • To be able to work in a dynamic environment. Fantastic ideas come from everywhere in Kraken Technologies, so you’ll need to be able to spot and harness them. Experience in a fast-paced start-up or scale-up would be a plus.
  • To be curious and willing to roll up your sleeves. For example, this might mean learning some development skills;  helping to build out and prioritise our tech hiring roadmap; using SQL to gain further understanding of a problem; or even editing some code.
  • To have excellent written and verbal communication skills and an ability to interact with people with varying levels of technical knowledge.

It would be great if

  • You have knowledge of utilities or energy markets.
  • You have knowledge of working with data at scale.

  • We're very excited to be growing our team. We're looking for skills and experience to help shape and define the future of not only our team, but the wider business at a global scale. If you're reading this and grinning, please apply! There are huge challenges to tackle, and we need amazing people who are keen to get stuck in.
If this sounds like you then we'd love to hear from you.
Are you ready for a career with us? We want to ensure you have all the tools and environment you need to unleash your potential. Need any specific accommodations? Whether you require specific accommodations or have a unique preference, let us know, and we'll do what we can to customise your interview process for comfort and maximum magic!
Studies have shown that some groups of people, like women, are less likely to apply to a role unless they meet 100% of the job requirements. Whoever you are, if you like one of our jobs, we encourage you to apply as you might just be the candidate we hire. Across Octopus, we're looking for genuinely decent people who are honest and empathetic. Our people are our strongest asset and the unique skills and perspectives people bring to the team are the driving force of our success.
