Job Description
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
We are seeking a 4IR Equipment Developer Intern to work on an innovative smart CCTV system with barcode recognition. The goal is to develop an intelligent video recording system capable of detecting barcodes in video streams and triggering database updates upon detection.
This role offers hands-on experience in embedded systems, IoT development, and computer vision, requiring problem-solving skills, design thinking, and an iterative development mindset. You will collaborate with hardware and software teams to create a robust and efficient system.
Responsibilities
- Develop and program a smart CCTV system using suitable hardware platforms (e.g., microcontrollers, embedded systems, arduino, SBCs like Raspberry Pi).
- Implement barcode recognition within recorded video streams and integrate triggers for database logging.
- Design and develop database connectivity to store barcode detection data.
- Optimize video processing algorithms for efficient barcode detection and minimal processing lag.
- Assist in implementing real-time monitoring features for system reliability.
- Collaborate with hardware engineers to integrate camera modules, microcontrollers, and external sensors.
- Prepare technical documentation, system diagrams, and PowerPoint presentations for progress updates and system explanations.
- Conduct testing, debugging, and performance tuning to improve system accuracy.
- Work within Agile development frameworks (Scrum) for iterative improvements.
- Explore and apply best-in-class solutions to enhance system efficiency and performance.
Qualifications
Required:
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Electronics, Computer Science, Mechatronics, or a related field.
- Experience with embedded system programming using platforms like Arduino, Raspberry Pi, or other microcontrollers/SBCs.
- Basic knowledge of computer vision and image processing for barcode detection.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to debug and optimize embedded systems.
- Proficiency in English, with strong technical documentation and presentation skills (PowerPoint expertise preferred).
- Interest in IoT, Industry 4.0, and smart automation systems.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a design-thinking approach to development.
Preferred (Nice to Have):
- Experience with OpenCV, Python, or machine learning for barcode recognition.
- Knowledge of SQL or NoSQL databases for barcode data storage.
- Familiarity with REST APIs or MQTT protocols for IoT communication.
- Exposure to Scrum or Agile methodologies in project-based work.
Skills Requirements
- Embedded system development: Ability to work with microcontrollers, SBCs, and camera modules.
- Computer vision and barcode recognition: Understanding of image processing for real-time barcode detection.
- Database integration: Ability to store and retrieve barcode data effectively.
- Hardware interfacing: Experience connecting cameras, sensors, and computing platforms.
- Presentation and documentation skills: Clear technical communication using PowerPoint.
- Analytical mindset and problem-solving skills: Ability to optimize system performance.
