As an intern with our Analytics Centre of Excellence team, you will accelerate the development of how insights are developed, shared, and applied across our business. You’ll work on a variety of ad hoc requests exploring how we can best utilize our data and share the impact of insight across the organization in a human, actionable way.
We are looking for 3 interns for a 4-month contract beginning May 2025, that will support data analysis including Machine Learning, Member Experience, and Finance Transformation.
This role will enjoy hybrid working arrangements which can be fulfilled primarily from the Vancity head office location and your Lower Mainland based home office. This role may require you to work in-office at least once a week.
A typical day would involve:
- Support our efforts to educate the wider business on analytics best practice, develop engaging thought leadership.
- Support our Data Utilization strategy to grow data literacy and stewardship across the organization, diagnose business-critical data points, and explore opportunities for data improvements that will bolster decision-making.
- Explore our data set to build out ad hoc insights to challenge conventional assumptions, invalidate hypotheses, and unearth new insights of interest. This will include developing insights for the purpose of provoking thought and educating stakeholders on the potential use cases for strategic insight, data utilization and advanced analytics in our organization.
- Support early thinking on long-term advanced analytics work around member engagement, life-time value and predictive modeling of the membership base.
- Humanize insights from data by crafting narratives with analysis and a clear ‘so what’ with measurable recommendations.
- Design and deploy high-performance data processing jobs with reliable data validation, monitoring, and logging practice. Collaborate with data scientists and strategic insights analysts to build and maintain scalable, high-performance solutions.
- Meeting with business stakeholders, doing data discovery, completing insight work, creating visualizations to deliver nuggets of actionable insights and deploying, maintaining, and supporting data and analytics jobs.
You have:
- Currently a 3rd,4th, or 5th year student in a post-secondary program studying Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Computer Science, Economics, Finance, or other quantitative fields. Master’s students are also welcome to apply.
- 1 – 2 years of experience in analytics
- Working level statistical skills, including regression, time series, champion/challenger testing, and decision tree modeling
- Strong data mining skills
- Ability to access complex data sources, explore data resources, clean and compile data to provide analytical driven solutions to real business problems
- Proficiency with MS SQL, R, Python, Power BI, and Tableau
- Excellent analytical thinking capability, skilled at translating business problems into analytical questions and summarizing data to reach conclusion
- Good communication skills, with a strong ability to explain complex ideas to broader audiences using non-technical language
- Good presentation skills and are able to organize information and present analytical result in an efficient manner
Bonus points, if you have:
- Experience in building case studies
- Experience in data story-telling and visualization
- Experience in banking or financial institutions

The salary range for this role is an hourly rate of $29.00 to $33.00. The offered salary may vary depending on factors such as relevant qualifications, skills, previous experience, and internal equity.
