The Transportation Planning and Management Division (TP&M) is responsible for the safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible movement of people and goods on the City's streets, supporting the larger goals of economic and social vitality for people living, working, and doing business in New York City. The Division’s responsibilities include planning, street design, technical analysis, signs, transit development, freight mobility and markings, ensuring the safety of motor vehicle occupants, pedestrians, and cyclists.
TP&M is seeking a motivated candidate to assist in data analysis for the Public Engagement Group / Street Ambassadors unit, a critical outreach support team for the TP&M Division. This unit supports Vision Zero safety initiatives cited in the Agency's Strategic Plan and NYC Streets Plan and has been critical to the agency's public engagement strategy. The Ambassadors provide capacity for public input in the development of Street Improvement Projects (SIPs) and supports the explicit goals of Project-Based Outreach and Public Awareness. Under the direction of the Director and Data Analytics Lead, the candidate will conduct research and analysis on the group’s public engagement analytics and strategy. This includes outreach plans, providing detailed data analysis, deploying to the field as needed to help implement engagement strategies, working with the Public Engagement Coordinator (PEC) to setup deployment logistics, liaising with internal planning units, and performing analyses to assist in programmatic planning, developing best practices in database management, and identifying and tracking key performance metrics to optimize outreach efforts. Field assignments include assessing loading and delivery needs along commercial corridors as well as conducting intercept surveys to capture data at static positions within project areas. Typical outreach projects support public plazas, bike lane development, Open Streets, busway / bus lane development, and Citi Bike expansion. This is an opportunity to work with a team dedicated to improving safety, accessibility, and mobility throughout New York City. Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated experience in transportation planning, public engagement, and experience in or with the public sector.

Preferred Skills
Experience with survey data and Open Data using SQL, BI tools, and Python, including data science libraries such as Pandas, NumPy and /or Matplotlib, is desirable. The ideal candidate will be skilled in evaluating, collecting, classifying, and analyzing post-engagement outreach data. The candidate should also be comfortable using programming languages to explore complex and nuanced questions about the public engagement processes. Experience in data collection practices, ETL pipeline development, database management, data visualization, and knowledge of machine learning concepts is preferred. The ability to connect complex data trends to broader policy issues is crucial, as is working collaboratively with internal operational planning teams to tailor data analysis and deliverables to their needs.
Additional Information
All scheduling will be set in advance, but flexibility is expected. In order to conduct effective outreach, work-week schedules can either be Sunday through Thursday or Tuesday through Saturday during the outreach season (as needed). Winter schedules are normally Monday through Friday. Shifts will be staggered to include some early morning or evening events as needed.

Qualifications
1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.
