The purpose of this role is to support the Head of Data Governance in discharging their duties in establishing and overseeing the data governance program for the Maples Group, with significant focus on the controls associated with the creation, receipt, maintenance, use and disposition of records.
About the Role
The Data Governance Manager reports to the Head of Data Governance, within the wider Risk function led by the Chief Risk Officer. The primary focus of the role is to support the delivery of iterative maturity for our data governance and records management framework, enhancing best practice and ensuring compliance. However, the role sits within the risk, information security and audit team and, as a result, will entail participation in activities associated with delivery of the team's broader strategic agenda. Additionally, the role will incorporate significant interaction with a wide range of colleagues across all parts of Maples Group and collaborating on a number of initiatives to support the business's growth.
Core responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Supporting the review and update of Maples Group's data governance and records management policy framework
- Working on the implementation of the data governance framework involving collaboration with colleagues and data owners, data stewards, and data custodians across PMO, business, tech, ops, risk, compliance, InfoSec and other functional areas
- Operationalising key data governance components, including data catalogues/data dictionaries, information handling lifecycle and data classification methodologies
- Creating and delivering staff data governance training and awareness materials
- Supporting the Head of Data Governance in establishing the governance and reporting framework for data governance, to address both steady-state and uplift. This will include creation of data governance metrics for reporting to risk management committees, Group, business line, entity and location level
- Provision of subject matter advice, guidance and support on key projects, transformation programs and other strategic initiatives
- Validation and monitoring activities to measure ongoing alignment with industry best practice including ISO15489
EXPERIENCE
What You Bring
In addition to indisputably high ethical standards, the ideal candidate possesses the following:
- Five plus years of proven data governance experience with strong, demonstrable experience working on records management and broader data governance agendas, ideally within a Legal, Risk Management or Compliance background
- An industry recognized certification such as Information Governance Professional (IGP), Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP), Certified Information Management Professional (CIMP) or similar is preferred
- Strong understanding of data governance and records management best practice including ISO15489, along with demonstrable experience across Information Security, data privacy and data protection practices
- Experience working on data governance matters in a financial services or professional services environment
- Project management and negotiation skills. The ability to work with and across diverse agendas whilst maintaining a consistent, structured path towards data governance maturity uplift
- The ability and interest to positively enhance what we do and how we do it, whilst contending with a face-paced, regulatory and business driven environment. The ability to do what is best and what is right for the organisation and demonstrate the flexibility in scope and approach needed to do so
- Experience in supporting the establishment or maintenance of a data governance framework and processes in an organization with international presence
- Working knowledge of key data privacy laws and regulations, such as GDPR, CCPA, GLBA, PIPEDA, etc.
- Knowledge of data loss prevention, SOC, or cybersecurity operations with specific understanding of the tactics, techniques and procedures is desirable
