Detroit Labs is looking for experienced DevOps Cloud Engineers with expertise in Google Cloud Platform (GCP) to join an exciting project with an existing client that drives game-changing automotive technology. This role will work on connected vehicle services for customers owning vehicles with connected capabilities across the USA and Canada. These systems consist of several backend, frontend, and middleware applications. The systems integrate with the connectivity units inside the vehicle, and enable features like the ability to remotely start the vehicle, view parking locations, Alexa voice commands, and many more. Requirements
- 7+ years of professional experience in cloud engineering or DevOps, with a strong focus on Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
- Hands-on expertise with key GCP services including Google Compute Engine, Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE), Cloud Functions, Cloud Storage, and BigQuery
- Advanced knowledge of Infrastructure as Code (IaC), using tools like Terraform and Google Cloud Deployment Manager
- Proficiency with containerization and orchestration tools such as Docker and Kubernetes
- Experience designing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using tools like Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or GitLab CI
- Scripting skills with Python, Bash, or PowerShell to support automation and tooling
- Understanding of cloud networking (VPC, load balancers, DNS) and GCP security best practices (IAM, service accounts, encryption)
- Experience with monitoring and observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, Stackdriver, or the ELK stack
- Familiarity with GitOps, ChatOps, and modern DevOps practices to enable scalable and reliable deployments
- Skilled in cloud cost optimization and performance tuning within GCP environments
- Solid grasp of Git and the software development lifecycle
- Experience building and managing cloud-native applications that are designed to scale efficiently on GCP
- Google Cloud Certification is highly preferred
- Experience with serverless technologies (Cloud Functions, Cloud Run) and/or ML infrastructure on GCP (preferred but not required)
- Detroit Labs is not currently able to hire candidates who will reside outside of the United States during their term of employment
Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and maintain scalable, reliable, and secure infrastructure on Google Cloud Platform
- Develop Infrastructure as Code (IaC) to automate deployment of cloud resources across environments
- Collaborate with software engineering, QA, and operations teams to deliver seamless, end-to-end CI/CD pipelines
- Build and support Kubernetes-based deployments using GKE, ensuring high availability and performance of cloud-native applications
- Implement monitoring, alerting, and logging strategies to support observability and rapid incident response
- Enforce cloud security best practices and compliance standards across all environments
- Optimize cloud infrastructure for cost, performance, and scalability based on workload needs
- Troubleshoot production issues and contribute to system stability, reliability, and resilience
- Champion DevOps culture and modern practices such as GitOps and ChatOps across teams
- Work closely with cross-functional stakeholders to align infrastructure strategy with product goals and timelines
- Work a hybrid work schedule, coming into the Auburn Hills office a minimum of three days per week
