What is the role?

 

Sitting within the Technology, Strategy and Data branch the Data Analytics Team is responsible for developing and enhancing the AFP's Business Intelligence capability (SAS Firefly). We have broad and exciting remit, working with stakeholders at all levels of the AFP to provide them with business intelligence reporting to assist in make better informed data driven decisions.  Work is often driven by executive needs and outcome reporting for major operations, the breadth and visibility provided exposes the team to amazing opportunities to see what many areas of the AFP do and how they do it.

 

Maintaining the BI capability has three main streams, system administration, Data engineering (ETL) and Visual analytics (Report and dashboard development). The team has a range of business analyst, data analyst and data engineering skills the manage these elements and uses an agile methodology to assist in prioritisation. We are a mid-sized team (6-8 members) which is geographically spread and utilises technology to support a strong and effective flexible working culture.

 

As a Technical Specialist in the AFP you will ensure the achievement of outcomes are in accordance with the regulatory framework, the AFP Code of Conduct and the AFP Governance Instruments. Technical Specialists provide expert consultancy within their area of specialism. They develop and promote technical solutions which support the business requirements of the AFP, within their area of expertise. A Technical Specialist role does not hold any leadership or financial delegations.

What will you do?

 

The successful candidate will be required to:

 

  • Ability to build and maintain complex data pipelines using SAS toolsets.
  • Deriving security requirements from business teams and understand complex technical landscapes to implement appropriate security models.
  • Complex system administration including troubleshooting and leading SAS Firefly problem resolution.
  • Maintenance of the SAS Platform through first level Platform administration, and continuing to build these skills to perform patching, testing, monitoring and fault checking.
  • Validating SAS ETL and analytical outputs of team members to ensure appropriate quality control.
  • Documentation of technical SOPs.
  • Business Analysis including developing business requirements in sensitive business areas.
  • Raise and present technical changes in appropriate forums.
  • Work collaboratively and communicate well within a self-sufficient scrum team.
  • Establishing and maintaining strong stakeholder relationships.

Essential Requirements

 

  • You must be an Australian Citizen at the time of application.
  • A Negative Vetting 1 (Secret) security clearance or the ability to obtain one.
  • Relevant qualification or extensive experience and knowledge in area of expertise..
  • Demonstrated experience (5+ years) in the Data Analytics domain.  
  • Experience with SAS administration.
  • Strong communication and documentation skills.
  • The ability to work with senior stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated experience with modern data analytics, data engineering tools.
  • Demonstrated ability and eagerness to take the initiative to learn new technologies quickly.

Desirable Requirements

 

The following skills and/or experience would be highly regarded:

 

  • Demonstrated experience in Visual Analytics and application of User Experience concepts.
  • Demonstrated experience in ETL development.
  • Data Manipulation / Wrangling skills in technologies such as SAS Enterprise Guide, SAS BASE, Python or R.
  • Strong demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues.
  • Formal qualifications from a recognised tertiary institution or demonstrated equivalent skills and experience in Information and Data Management.
  • Proven history of knowledge sharing, mentoring and upskilling of team members'  SAS technical capabilities.
