Abbott Diabetes Care has opened a new site, in Kilkenny, that is at the forefront of Diabetes care with the latest technology, to manufacture FreeStyle blood glucose test strips and FreeStyle Sensors for use in diabetes management. Among Abbott Diabetes Care leading brands are the FreeStyle Precision, FreeStyle Lite and FreeStyle Libre systems.

As a Vision Engineer to support the sourcing, qualification, and maintenance of cutting-edge computer vision systems. These systems enable machines to interpret and understand visual information, enhancing our operational capabilities.
Responsibilities:
Contribute to the design of the overall architecture of computer vision systems, ensuring alignment with specific requirements and objectives. This includes selecting appropriate hardware components and software tools.
Provide support for vision hardware and software control systems tailored for test rigs or production machines, including software development using the Cognex Insight platform and various programming languages such as C#, VB, or C/C++.
Collaborate with internal departments (Operations, Engineering, QA, R&D, Technical functions) and external suppliers to ensure seamless communication and development.
Develop algorithms and techniques for processing and analyzing images and videos, including tasks such as image emulation, feature extraction, and object recognition.
Support the implementation of machine learning models for object detection, classification, and tracking.
Work closely with subject matter experts to select the right hardware (e.g., cameras, lighting optics) for applications, ensuring accurate measurements and image quality.
Write code and software to implement vision algorithms and control hardware components, interfacing with other systems and applications.
Manage the storage and retrieval of large volumes of image and video data, including pre-processing and organization.
Identify and implement performance optimizations to meet the vision system's speed and efficiency requirements.
Conduct rigorous testing, validation, and benchmarking to ensure the accuracy and reliability of the vision system's output.
Provide ongoing maintenance and support to ensure the system's functionality and performance.
Stay updated with the latest advancements in computer vision, machine learning, and related technologies to enhance system capabilities.
Ensure compliance with relevant divisional and corporate procedures, industry standards, safety regulations, and implement security measures to protect sensitive data.
Education and Experience:
Minimum Level 7 NFQ qualification or equivalent in Engineering/Science preferred.
A minimum of 3 years of experience in a similar role.
Proven experience with machine vision, including implementation of Cognex Insight camera hardware and related platforms, demonstrating a solid understanding of the subject.
Excellent troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
Competency in vision algorithm development and interfacing with PLC/HMI systems.
Working knowledge of optics and lighting techniques.
