Your Role 

 

Step into a dynamic role where your analytical skills will help tackle natural peril challenges in the insurance industry. As a junior team member, you'll gain invaluable experience working alongside seasoned experts in the Natural Perils Modelling, Pricing & Engineering Team, and the broader Group Actuarial Team. Your key responsibilities will include: 

 

  • Support IAG's Businesses and Customers: Analyse, interpret, support, and maintain risk models for various natural perils. 
  • Keep our risk models updated: Gather and process hazard and elevation data across Australia and New Zealand. 
  • Provide Analytical and Research Support: Assist with tasks related to insurance pricing, catastrophe modelling, public policy, integrating risk models, climate risk, and more. 

 

This is a permanent role based in Sydney / Gadigal Country.  

   

 

About You     

 

 

The successful candidate will have:     

 

  • Experience or a keen interest in peril risk, risk modelling, geospatial science, catastrophe modelling or data science.  
  • Strong technical and interpersonal communication skills.  
  • Familiarity with concepts relating to peril risk, geospatial data, catastrophe modelling, natural hazards and/or insurance pricing.  
  • Demonstrated capability to learn new concepts, computing tools and processes.  
  • Experience in analysis, data management or GIS using SQL, R, Python, QGIS or similar.  
  • Experience with floodplain, bushfire, or coastal risk management practices would be beneficial but is not mandatory.
