Technical Program Manager
New York, NY, US
Full Time Mid-level / Intermediate USD 90K - 160K
Description
Wiliot was founded by the team that invented one of the technologies at the heart of 5G. Their next vision was to develop an IoT sticker, a computing element that can power itself by harvesting radio frequency energy, bringing connectivity and intelligence to everyday products and packaging, things previously disconnect from the IoT. This revolutionary mixture of cloud and semiconductor technology is being used by some of the world’s largest consumer, retail, food and pharmaceutical companies to change the way we make, distribute, sell, use and recycle products.
Our investors include Softbank, Amazon, Alibaba, Verizon, NTT DoCoMo, Qualcomm and PepsiCo.
We are growing fast and need people that want to be part of the journey, commercializing Sensing as a Service and enabling “Intelligence for Everyday Thing”.
We are seeking a Technical Program Manager (Data) to orchestrate and drive multiple concurrent data projects across our growing data organization. In close partnership with the Data Team Lead, this individual will be responsible for streamlining project execution, aligning cross-functional stakeholders, and ensuring timely delivery of high-impact data products and services.
This role sits at the intersection of strategy, technical operations, and program management. The ideal candidate is comfortable translating complex technical details into actionable plans, balancing multiple priorities, and communicating effectively with both executive stakeholders and hands-on data practitioners
Responsibilities
Program Coordination & Planning
- Plan, prioritize, and sequence multiple concurrent data initiatives in collaboration with the Data Team Lead and other stakeholders.
- Define and track program-level objectives, milestones, and success criteria for data projects (e.g., analytics initiatives, data engineering pipelines, and ML model rollouts).
Cross-Functional Alignment
- Collaborate with product, engineering, and business teams to capture requirements, clarify dependencies, and proactively identify/resolve conflicts.
- Champion effective communication and transparency across departments, ensuring stakeholders understand timelines, resource needs, and key decisions.
Process Management & Continuous Improvement
- Establish and refine agile or Kanban-like processes suited to an exploratory data environment, including time-boxed experimentation cycles and production deployments.
- Track and analyze program metrics (e.g., lead time, throughput, resource allocation) to optimize workflow and improve delivery speed.
Risk & Issue Management
- Identify risks early (capacity constraints, technology pitfalls, cross-team bottlenecks) and drive mitigation strategies.
- Facilitate quick resolution of issues and blockers, escalating where necessary to maintain program momentum.
Stakeholder Communication & Reporting
- Regularly present project/program status, key achievements, and risks to leadership and relevant business teams.
- Translate complex data initiatives into clear business impact narratives for executive alignment.
Team Facilitation & Collaboration
- Guide teams on best practices around workload balancing and efficient handoffs.
- Foster an environment of collaboration, accountability, and knowledge-sharing within the data organization.
Requirements
Proven Program/Project Management Experience
- 4+ years of experience managing complex, large-scale data or software projects, ideally in fast-paced startup or tech environments.
- Familiarity with agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban, Scrumban) and program management frameworks.
Technical Familiarity
- Understanding of data science and analytics lifecycles, including data engineering, ML pipelines, and cloud data platforms.
- Ability to grasp technical concepts (e.g., MLOps, distributed computing, data infrastructure) enough to set realistic project scopes and timelines.
Excellent Communication & Influence Skills
- Track record of aligning multiple stakeholders (engineering, data science, product, marketing, etc.) and driving decisions in ambiguous contexts.
- Comfortable presenting complex ideas to both technical audiences and executive leadership.
- Analytical & Problem-Solving Mindset
- Able to identify root causes, anticipate risks, and propose creative solutions that keep the program on track.
- Capable of balancing short-term deliverables with long-term strategic goals.
Nice-to-Have
- Experience in a data-focused startup or scale-up environment.
- Familiarity with tools like Jira, Asana, Trello, or other project management platforms.
- Certification(s) in PMP, CSM, or other relevant agile/PM frameworks.
The salary range for this position is 90-160K USD annually .
