Position Summary:
The Associate Director of Data Science/Bioinformatics is a newly created position within Translational Research at Zenas BioPharma and will play a critical leadership role in the organization. This individual is expected to work with cross functional stakeholders from Global Research, Clinical Pharmacology/Clinical Development and Business Development, applying and building data analysis tools, driving data interrogation and interpretation of large and complex sets of study data with development candidates.
The candidate will perform cross-omic analysis of data sets generated from pre-clinical and clinical studies with development candidates to examine their pharmacological effects and mechanisms of action, and identify novel biomarkers associated with response. She/He will be responsible for using biomarker data sets to inform indication selection for Zenas programs. Candidates must be able to analyze and synthesize complex scientific data quickly and condense the information into straightforward, data-driven key messages for internal and external communication. The candidate will have the ability to continuously learn and adapt as new technologies and methodologies are developed in the field. The candidate will provide subject matter expertise (SME) and actively participate in cross-functional teams. Strong interpersonal skills, proven track record working in a matrix environment to deliver on programs and goals, and an ability to work in a dynamic cross-functional team environment are required. Candidates must have technical acumen and have demonstrated a strong ability to ideate, lead and execute integrated biomarker analysis to support immunology and inflammation programs. This person will work closely with the Executive Director of Translational Research, and other members of the Zenas research team, to meet Zenas objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Analyzing and interpreting large and complex biological data sets, such as RNA sequences, gene expression patterns, protein concentrations, etc.
- Developing and using computational tools and algorithms to analyze and interpret cross-omic biological data.
- Identifying patterns and trends in biological data to support indication selection.
- Integrating biomarker data and pre-clinical/clinical data sets.
- Collaborating with biologists, medical researchers, and other scientists to design, conduct experiments, and interpret the results.
- Communicating findings and results to other scientists, researchers, and stakeholders through written reports and presentations.
- Keeping up-to-date with the latest developments in bioinformatics and related fields and applying this knowledge to improve research methods and techniques.
- Developing and maintaining databases and software tools for storing, manipulating, and analyzing biological data.
- Managing and analyzing high-throughput data, such as Next-Generation Sequencing data.
- Supporting the development of new technologies and methods in bioinformatics.
Qualifications:
- Ph.D. degree in bioinformatics, computer science or biology; 5+ years’ experience
- Skills in programming languages such as Python, R, and SQL.
- Experience interrogating and analyzing large multi-omic publicly available data sets.
- Experience in supporting identification of response markers through combined analysis of clinical trial and biomarker data sets.
- Certification in professional organizations, such as the International Society for Computational Biology (ISCB), preferred but not required.
- Ability to coordinate multiple projects and effectively manage changing priorities.
- Experience with vendor management and oversight, and with contract negotiations.
- Strong leadership and collaboration communication skills.
- Demonstrates flexibility to work non-traditional work hours when needed, given international operations across time zones.
- Ability to do some travel [up to 20%].

Zenas is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The base salary pay range for this role is $162,400 to $203,000. Actual compensation packages will depend on various factors, including, but not limited to depth of experience, education, skillset, overall performance and/or location.
