Our Commercial organization leads our global sales and marketing strategies around the world. Our integrated team continues to solidify BioMarin’s commercial presence in the United States and Europe and is rapidly growing in other regions, such as Latin America, the Middle East and Asia-Pacific. 
  Location: SRC based preferred (hybrid) 
  Summary The Director, Data Strategy & Advanced Analytics, will be a key member of the Business Insights & Analytics team for the newly created Business Operations & Strategy team. This position is responsible for defining the data strategy, acquisition roadmap, data management practices, and governance to support the enterprise business needs. He/she will serve as the internal expert on healthcare data sources and manages alignment across functions to foster value creation by means of the organization’s data assets, practices and external ecosystem as well as by leading strategic advanced analytics to inform strategy and improve execution efficiency across BioMarin, collaborating across functions (e.g. BU leadership, Marketing/Sales, Clinical, Medical, Pipeline, Market Access, Finance). This position will be critical to directing insights-driven advanced analytics (e.g. predictive modeling, marketing mix resource allocation, brand analytics through secondary data sources, etc.). He/she will work collaboratively with internal functional partners and external business partners to ensure alignment with data identification and resourcing as well as analytical project objectives and approach. This role will report to the Senior Director, Business Insights & Analytics. Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
  • Develop and execute the overall strategic direction, vision and roadmap for data strategy, governance and operating model for each BU based on priorities and needs and in collaboration with international team
  • Champion and maintain enterprise data strategy and governance principles (goals, objectives, priorities, scope) 
  • Define data management framework that is aligned with evolving regulatory, privacy and security requirements
  • Own the relationship and process for acquiring data from third party providers, such as IQVIA, Symphony, Komodo, MMIT, etc.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and vendors to coordinate cross-functional analysis and data acquisition
  • Provide strategic direction and oversight for the design, development, operation and support of data management capabilities (Data Intake, Master Data Management, Channel Aggregation, etc.) that fulfill the business needs and enable data-driven decision making across teams
  • Be a player-coach and lead teams to source, onboard to deliver accurate, reliable, and timely data and operational support across key stakeholders
  • Partner across Business Operations & Strategy and with stakeholders across BUs and functions to identify opportunities for maximizing resourcing and leveraging central data by therapeutic area, according to best practices, to drive business decisions and business process optimization 
  • Creates and deploys tools and resources to continuously improve our understanding of the market and to drive business goals, including marketing mix optimization, brand analytics to understand market dynamics, and identify opportunities and risks in a timely manner
  • Working collaboratively with IT and other teams, aligns data resources for both strategic and operational use in a cost-effective and compliant way
  • Leads ongoing development and enhancement of performance reporting suite, including data validation, data integrity, data profiling, data auditing, and data gap analyses; partner with the customer-facing teams on data, analysis, reporting and execution needs to support performance (e.g. sales forecasts and performance reports, data-driven insights and recommendations, etc.)
  • Lead team to design and construct reporting of brand and campaign effectiveness; including collaborating with Commercial IT, Digital, other internal stakeholders, and vendors on digital infrastructure and delivery (e.g. data, platforms and processes) 
  • Maintains awareness of evolving analytical techniques, software and data sources to regularly evaluate the needs of the business and make budgetary recommendations on spend changes about data, vendors or planned analysis
  • Develops new capabilities to build analyses and models that use best practices and industry knowledge and that may fall outside historical norms
  • Develop training materials, data dictionary and other supporting documentation to enhance data literacy and consistency across the organization 
  • Collaborate across BI&CE and BUs on methodological definitions and measurement of KPIs, ensuring consistent usage to support business stakeholders 
  • Plans and allocates resources and budget effectively by managing consultants and/or staff and accomplish the work to meet functional accountabilities
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree is required; Advanced degree in Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, or related fields preferred
  • A minimum of 8 to 10 years of experience in pharma data analytics related fields (data management/governance, analytics, etc.) utilizing rigorous logic and methods to solve challenging business problems with effective solutions through brand performance analytics, physician behavioral segmentation, marketing mix optimization, promotion response modeling, and test/control analysis ROI analysis 
  • Deep understanding of the commercial & medical data sources primarily used in pharmaceutical industry (i.e. script level, patient longitudinal, specialty pharmacy / distributor, lab, real-world, etc.) in generating business insights. Knowledge of media data, social media and click data is a plus. 
  • Deep expertise in external data assets (including medical claims, real-world, and specialty pharmacy) to enable business strategy and insights 
  • Strong data strategy and governance experience with pharmaceutical business knowledge in defining and advancing the Data Management and Analytics capabilities; familiarity with business intelligence and data warehousing principles and techniques 
  • Ability to work effectively in and foster a team environment (consultative with a willingness to learn, teach and grow); experience with people development / management preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal and influencing skills, with demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and effectively with key business partners, IT leadership teams, procurement/legal/compliance, and external service providers; ability and desire to shape the organization
  • Demonstrated project management skills from planning, prioritization, and objective setting to alignment and plan execution; flexibility to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment
  • Excellent verbal, written communication & presentation skills, including ability to convey data insights to non-technical stakeholders 
  • Demonstrated ability to manage external vendors/resources to deliver results, contracts and budget activities required
