  • Under general supervision, CREATES basic statistical exhibits used for analyses and supporting different business departments including Underwriting, Claims, Marketing and Advertising to achieve business goals. PERFORMS data exploration and research & development research independently and collaboratively, SUPPORTS cross-functional business and technical teams on business and analytical innovation and contributes to project related communication.

    Essential Functions:

    1. PREPARES statistical exhibits used for analyses and MAKES projections.

    2. PREPARES statistical exhibits for internal management information reports, such as those covering frequency and severity of losses, geographical distribution of losses, losses by cause, large losses and classification relativities. DRAFTS narrative for such reports when appropriate.

    3. PREPARES statistical exhibits used to (a) support rate filings, (b) reflect selected loss reserves in company financial statements and experience reports, or (c) fulfill statutory reporting requirements.

    4. MAINTAINS, UPDATES, REDESIGNS and DEVELOPS data sources and regular information sources for the section.

    5. ASSISTS in designing and testing data bases and experience reports.

    6. CHECKS and BALANCES data sources for reasonability. ORGANIZES various data primarily through personal computing, using languages such as R, Python, APL, SAS, EXCEL and ACCESS.

    7. UPDATES existing predictive models or data pulls with limited changes.

    8. RUNS and UPDATES existing reports with limited updates and TROUBLESHOOTS minor issues.

    9. PRESENTS observations of analyses to supervisor and other department staff.

    10. DRAFTS text for rate reviews, filings, and internal memos and e-mails describing results of analysis.

    11. DRAFTS Pricing Committee, staff or regional meeting minutes, as assigned.

    12. DRAWS insights and MAKES recommendations based on assigned analysis.

    13. ANALYZES and EVALUATES groups of policies with like rating and underwriting characteristics to identify trends.

    14. ANALYZES large sets of data to identify changes or trends in business performance. PREDICTS changes in policy performance or behavior and creates cost-benefit analysis to support processes.

    15. Actively LEARNS industry and business background.

    16. PARTICIPATES actively in all training sessions as assigned.

    17. ASSISTS with training Research & Development Analyst I.

    18. ADHERES to the Code of Conduct, company policies, and operating principles.

    19. MEETS attendance standard at business location to perform necessary job functions and to facilitate interaction with management and coworkers.

    20. MEETS the requirements specified below.

    o Master’s degree or higher in Statistics, Mathematics, Data Science, Economics, Computer Science, Engineering, Operation Research or related quantitative and analytics fields
    o SAS SQL knowledge
    o Cloud database knowledge
    o Proficient to R (Python will be a plus)
    o Proficient in Excel v-look-up, pivot tables, charts and graphing
    o Ability to analyze data using statistical, mathematical or data mining methods
    o Knowledge of insurance rating products and principles
    o Knowledge of Claims, Underwriting, Marketing or Agent
    o Experience in process control and project managementMust be able to work both independently and in a team environment
    Must be able to multi-task
    Must be able to learn and apply large amounts of technical and procedural information
    Must be able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing

Annual Salary

$75,000.00 - $150,000.00

The above annual salary range is a general guideline. Multiple factors are taken into consideration to arrive at the final hourly rate/ annual salary to be offered to the selected candidate. Factors include, but are not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the role, the selected candidate’s work experience, education and training, the work location as well as market and business considerations.
