We are looking for a passionate and technically strong Digital and Automation Engineer to join our team.

In this role, you will provide expert knowledge and execution capability for the development and roll-out of digital technologies and factory automation projects. These initiatives are aimed at improving the performance of integrated processes across our global manufacturing and Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) sites.

You will also be instrumental in supporting and accelerating the adoption of our digital and automation strategies, ensuring they are implemented effectively to drive cost efficiency, productivity improvement, and technology transformation globally.

Rolls-Royce Power Systems is headquartered in Friedrichshafen in southern Germany and employs around 9,000 people. The product portfolio includes mtu-brand high-speed engines and propulsion systems for ships, power generation, heavy land, rail and defense vehicles and for the oil and gas industry as well as diesel and gas systems and battery containers for mission critical, standby and continuous power, combined generation of heat and power, and microgrids.

Key Accountabilities

  • Drive the design, development, and deployment of Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) platforms such as PTC Kepware, PTC ThingWorx, Siemens Insights Hub, Siemens Mendix, and Microsoft Azure.
  • Implement and maintain IIoT and Artificial Intelligence (AI) pipelines within the production environment, including:
    • Computer Vision Applications
    • Equipment Health Monitoring
    • Process Health Monitoring
  • Integrate real-time data from sensors and IIoT devices into the IIoT platforms while ensuring data accuracy, quality, and timeliness.
  • Collaborate closely with engineering teams, product owners, and end-users to deliver fit-for-purpose digital solutions that drive operational excellence.
  • Translate complex technical findings into actionable insights for business stakeholders, presenting in a clear and accessible manner.
  • Lead and manage digital and automation projects, ensuring delivery against budget, timelines, and quality expectations.
  • Support the continuous improvement and industrialization of digital factory solutions across global Rolls-Royce facilities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field. Master's or PhD preferred.
  • Proven hands-on experience in deploying and managing IIoT platforms, especially:
    • PTC Kepware and ThingWorx
    • Siemens Insights Hub and Mendix
    • Microsoft Azure services
  • Strong programming skills, particularly in Python, JavaScript, and SQL.
  • Solid knowledge and practical understanding of:
    • Industrial Automation & Robotics
    • DevOps practices
    • AI/Machine Learning in production environments
  • Demonstrated ability to apply analytical and innovative thinking to solve technical challenges.
  • Experience in managing and delivering complex technical projects across cross-functional teams.
