Job Overview:

We are looking for a summer intern to join our educational AI team. This team focuses on developing and applying generative language models to enhance learning experiences and educational assessment programs. Our work revolves around implementing and fine-tuning large language models (LLMs) like GPT, LLaMA, and Mistral to support educational applications such as personalized tutoring, automated feedback, and content generation. The internship will involve a well-defined project centered on using generative AI to solve educational challenges. This work may include fine-tuning foundation models, developing prompting strategies, creating evaluation frameworks, and/or analyzing model outputs for educational effectiveness. We prioritize work that contributes to the academic community through publications or conference presentations.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with our educational researchers and data scientists to define a research problem in AI-assisted learning, design thoughtful experiments, implement innovative solutions, and document findings

  • Develop Python code to fine-tune generative models, create specialized prompting techniques, or build evaluation frameworks for educational applications

  • Create and implement protocols for collecting, analyzing, and interpreting generative AI outputs in educational contexts

  • Document findings, maintain reproducible experiments, and present work on applying generative AI to educational challenges

  • Participate as a member of a multi-disciplinary team, contributing to discussions about effective applications of generative AI in education

Job Requirements:

  • Enrolled in a computer science, data science, learning sciences, or educational technology master's or Ph.D. program

  • Experience working with large language models and understanding of generative AI capabilities and limitations

  • Familiarity with prompt engineering and evaluation methods for generative outputs

  • Knowledge of educational assessment principles and learning outcomes measurement

  • Proficiency with Python and machine learning frameworks (PyTorch, Hugging Face Transformers, etc.)

  • Strong communication skills for explaining complex AI concepts to education stakeholders

  • Creative problem-solving abilities focused on applying AI technologies to enhance learning experiences
