The Opportunity

Join Roche’s Global Internship Program in Innovation & Sustainability (#IP2TIS) and be a part of a transformative project that focuses on analyzing bias in Large Language Models (LLMs). Here’s what you can expect:

Project Impact: Contribute to Roche’s ambitions by analyzing and addressing biases in LLMs to ensure they are fair and unbiased. Help drive the development of ethical AI systems within Roche’s Responsible AI team.

Core Project Work: Design a statistically sound bias evaluation framework, investigate various types of biases in different types of LLMs, design and implement methods to mitigate these biases (e.g. prompt engineering tips) and develop actionable guidelines for ethical AI use.

Key Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with data scientists and cloud engineers to identify and mitigate bias in different LLMs.

• Contribute to the work of the Responsible AI team at Roche, in particular to our Model Evaluation Framework, that also looks at performance, toxicity and sustainability of LLMs.

• Contribute to the development of actionable guidelines for ethical AI use

• Contribute to building a decision tree to guide the selection of the best model for a specific type of use case

• Present findings and recommendations across different teams at Roche, technical and non-technical

Learning & Growth: Gain hands-on experience in GenAI and LLMs, in particular on the Responsible 

AI/Ethics landscape. Benefit from mentorship and the opportunity to make a real-world impact.

Who You Are

You are enrolled or have completed your Bachelor’s or Master’s studies at a university, preferably in fields such as data science, AI/Gen AI,  computer science or related areas within the last 12 months and are interested in applying your knowledge in a modern working environment as part of an internship of at least 

3 months and getting to know the pharmaceutical industry.

Furthermore you are

We expect the following requirements: 

• Hands-on experience with GenAI required, additional experience with traditional NLP and classical Machine Learning algorithms preferred

• Advanced knowledge of Python

• Hands-on experience with cloud solutions (AWS and/or Azure)

• Passion for Ethical AI and Responsible AI

• Some experience with topics related to explainability, fairness and bias, performance assessment, greenAI are valuable

• Hands-on experience with prompt engineering

• Understanding of GenAI evaluation techniques

• Strong background in statistics

• Feature engineering & data preprocessing skills

• Problem solving: excellent analytical skills and the ability to tackle complex challenges with innovative solutions

• Communication: strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present complex findings clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences
