The Opportunity

You will join the Synthetic Molecules Technical Development (PTDC) team within the Pharma Technical Development (PTD) unit. Our team brings a broad range of experience across drug substance (DS), drug product (DP), analytical sciences and manufacturing science & technology. We collaborate closely with our partners in Research and Early Development (pRED / gRED), commercial manufacturing (PTC) and PTD departments. Our team is responsible for late stage technical development of our synthetic molecules pipeline, manufacture of DS and DP for clinical studies, and transfer of the processes to commercial Manufacturing.

In Process Chemistry & Catalysis, we design and develop robust and cost-effective Drug Substance processes using state-of-the-art science and methodologies. As part of our efforts, we routinely deploy our automated high-throughput experimentation platform for numerous pipeline projects. In this internship project, we aim to develop broadly applicable machine learning solutions for reaction optimization tailored to our robotic equipment.

Key Responsibilities

• Evaluate and apply machine learning algorithms to reaction optimization tasks 

• Develop digital solutions leveraging high quality proprietary data 

• Enable the efficient integration of computational tools in our experimental workflows 

This internship position is located in Basel, Switzerland, on site.

Who You Are

You are enrolled in Bachelor’s/Master’s studies at a university, preferably in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Pharmaceutical Science, Computer Science, or a related field and are interested in applying your knowledge in a modern working environment as part of an internship of at least 3 months and getting to know the pharmaceutical industry.

Required Qualifications

• Proficient in Python 

• Familiarity with Linux environments and software development tools (GitHub, IDEs, etc.)

• Experience with data science and machine learning frameworks (numpy, pandas, scikit-learn, etc.)

Preferred Qualifications

• Good understanding of organic chemistry and catalysis

• Experience with chemical optimization strategies
