How will I Help?
The Director Quantitative & Advanced Analytics role sits within the Chief Product Office’s Data & Analytics function with responsibility for a key BT financial and investment analytics, reporting and insights function. This role is essential for supporting the delivery of BT’s data strategy, using quantitative analysis enhanced with the capabilities of data to empower the business to achieve its objectives and drive business insights and maintain a robust data governance model.
This is a hands-on role, leading a small team with the view to grow with the business and progression of the data strategy. The role would suit someone from a strong hands-on Quant background looking to further expand their career into analytics, Insights, and Data science.
Core accountabilities include:
- Leading the development and implementation of quantitative models and methodologies across various domains, including financial markets, investment management, actuarial science, machine learning on big data, and marketing.
- Providing deep subject matter expertise on market data.
- Providing hands on data wrangling experience and ability to bring together disparate datasets.
- Utilising data and analytics to achieve business objectives, including model-building, analysis, and reporting to derive insights that influence strategy. This includes tasks such as flow forecasting, identifying profitable customer segments, and conducting cohort analysis on retirement strategies.
- Conducting and publishing high-quality research, collaborating with leading industry practitioners to generate thought leadership and promote the company.
- Contributing to the design and execution of the data strategy for BT, ensuring alignment with the business strategy and technology roadmap, and leveraging capabilities across the broader Westpac Group.
- Enhancing the application of mathematical and analytical methods within BT, such as assisting with the accurate assessment of Net Promoter Score (NPS) sampling errors.
- Ensuring effective data governance and implementation of BT's risk management framework to comply with license obligations and reduce operational risks. Collaborating closely with Westpac Group’s Risk, Compliance, and Security teams to maintain the highest standards of PII protection and data security.
- Managing key relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including group executives, regulators, and board members, to deliver data outputs that meet all requirements.
- Author or contribute to board papers requiring strong quantitative and analytical input and present such materials to boards.
- Staying updated on industry trends and relevant technical developments, including advancements in machine learning and artificial intelligence.

What do I need?
To be successful you will ideally have the following:
- Significant experience in Model Development and Quantitative Analysis in a Financial Services / heavily regulated environment such as Investment Banking, Asset Management, or Wealth Management.
- A strong background in quantitative disciplines such as Statistics, Economics, Mathematics, Financial Engineering, Operations Research, Engineering, Finance, or Physics.
- Extensive experience in statistical modelling, financial modelling, regression analytics, and/or machine learning.
- Minimum bachelor’s degree in an applied mathematical, statistical, or actuarial discipline.
- Post graduate studies (Masters and above) or CFA qualification highly regarded.
- A deep understanding of data governance, risk management, and compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Proven people leadership in managing a team of analysts, leading quantitative projects and the ability to communicate effectively with both direct reports and executive leadership teams.
- Knowledge of relevant financial industry legislations and regulations, able to understand their impact on the wealth business and keen to follow their development.
- Strong proficiency in multiple programming languages such as C++, VBA, Python, MATLAB, R including any libraries supporting quantitative analysis and modelling.
- Strong understanding of database systems including SQL and NoSQL databases.
- Flexibility in quickly adapting and working with different applications and technology stack.
- Technical expertise in data analysis, data mining, machine learning, or programming.
- Strong analytical and strategic mindset, with the ability to extract and communicate relevant data insights.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- A self-starter. Ability to work independently without instruction and drive projects from start to end.
