General Job Description:
ACCO Engineered Systems, a leader in building automation and energy solutions, is seeking a skilled and passionate Data Architect to join our team at our headquarters in Pasadena, California. You will play a critical role in designing, implementing, and managing our cutting-edge data lakehouse environment within Microsoft Fabric. This is an exciting opportunity to build a robust and scalable data platform that will drive innovation and data-driven decision-making across our organization.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Architect and Design
- Design and implement a modern data lakehouse architecture within Microsoft Fabric, leveraging OneLake, Spark, and Delta Lake to effectively manage data related to building automation systems, energy consumption, and operational efficiency.
- Define data ingestion, processing, and storage strategies for diverse data sources, including sensor data, building management systems, and enterprise resource planning systems.
- Develop and maintain conceptual, logical, and physical data models that accurately represent the relationships between various data entities within ACCO's business context.
- Establish data governance policies and procedures, ensuring data quality, security, and compliance with industry regulations and ACCO's internal standards.
- Collaborate with security teams to implement appropriate access controls and data masking techniques to protect sensitive information.
Implementation and Management:
- Oversee the implementation and maintenance of the data lakehouse environment, ensuring its stability, scalability, and performance.
- Build and optimize data pipelines for efficient data ingestion, transformation, and loading (ETL/ELT) processes, enabling timely and accurate data analysis.
- Implement data quality checks and validation rules to ensure data accuracy and consistency, contributing to reliable insights and informed decision-making.
- Monitor the performance and health of the data lakehouse, identifying and resolving any issues that may arise to maintain optimal operational efficiency.
- Stay abreast of the latest advancements in Microsoft Fabric and related technologies, continuously evaluating new features and functionalities to enhance the data lakehouse environment.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Work closely with data engineers, data scientists, business analysts, and domain experts within ACCO to understand their data needs and provide effective solutions that support their analytical and operational requirements.
- Clearly communicate technical concepts and designs to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, ensuring that everyone understands the value and implications of the data lakehouse architecture.
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of data architecture documentation and standards, promoting knowledge sharing and best practices within the organization.
Position Requirements (Skills, Work Experience, Education, Certifications, Licenses, etc.):
- 5+ years of experience in data architecture or a related field, with a proven track record of designing and implementing successful data management solutions.
- Strong understanding of data warehousing and data lake concepts, with practical experience in building and managing large-scale data platforms.
- Hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure cloud services, particularly with Microsoft Fabric (OneLake, Spark, Synapse), demonstrating proficiency in leveraging these technologies for data management and analysis.
- Proficiency in SQL and data modeling techniques, with the ability to design and implement efficient and scalable data structures.
- Experience with data governance and data quality management, ensuring data integrity and compliance with relevant regulations and standards.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to effectively interact with diverse stakeholders across different departments and levels of technical expertise.
Desirable:
- Experience with Delta Lake and Spark, demonstrating advanced knowledge of data processing and analytics frameworks.
- Knowledge of data security and privacy best practices, ensuring the protection of sensitive information and compliance with data protection regulations.
- Familiarity with Agile development methodologies, enabling efficient and iterative development of data solutions.
- Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI), facilitating the effective communication of data insights to business users.
- Relevant certifications (e.g., Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Engineer Associate), demonstrating commitment to professional development and expertise in relevant technologies.
- Experience or knowledge of building automation systems, energy management, or related fields within the building industry, enabling a deeper understanding of ACCO's business context and data requirements.

- The employee may regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds
Hours: This is a non-exempt position from Monday through Friday. Work hours begin and end between 7:00 am and 5:00 pm with a one-hour break for lunch and two rest breaks. Eight hours per day is required and other occasional overtime may be necessary per business needs.
Travel: 0 -5% of the time to and from the primary office to regional branch offices.
Competitive Wages:
$133,000 to $171,500 Annual Salary. Applicants please note that actual compensation is determined by several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to job-related skills, depth of experience, certifications, relevant education or training, and specific work location, among others. The offered wage or salary is only one aspect of an employee's total compensation.
