The Data Science Manager will be responsible for the standardization, process alignment and delivery excellence of Data Science capability. This role ensures that data is stored, modelled, and analyzed effectively to derive business value across all regions and business functions. This pivotal role demands a blend of technical expertise, business knowledge and operational excellence to ensure the seamless integration of Data Science solutions that align with domain needs.

The Opportunity

Cochlear has an opportunity for a full time Data Science Manager based in our Macquarie, Sydney office. In this role, the successful Data Science Manager will process discovery & ideation, hypothesis testing and modelling to obtain actionable insights related to business problems.

Responsibilities include:

• Lead end-to-end development and integration of Data Science (ML/AI) solutions from an enterprise perspective.  Responsible for; requirements gathering, model ideation, proof of concept (data exploration, modelling, and dashboard mock-up), operations embedment and storytelling with high quality and efficiency.
• Work with external vendors/system providers, and IT to develop data pipelines and analytical solutions in line with architecture principals that integrate Data Science into existing enterprise ecosystem.
• Facilitate knowledge sharing with Data Stewards through workshops, training sessions, or presentations in Data Science to educate and empower domains across the enterprise.
• Integrate processes within ADA to improve delivery, workload prioritization and team effectiveness.
• Develop, review, and enrich Data Science solutions across all domains that address domain needs.
• Manage the performance of production models through efficiency and effectiveness optimization.

About You

To add value to Cochlear in this role, you'll be able to demonstrate the following skills and experience:

Required Skills:

• 5+ years commercial experience in delivering real world business problems through ML/AI
• Tertiary education in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science or Mathematics
• High fluency in SQL, R and Python, Spark
• Experience in senior technical roles responsible for Data Science solutions design, people management, and delivery processes
• Experience working with large and unstructured data sets to enable model development
• Familiarity with git flow and agile product development
• Ability to navigate ambiguity and drive change effectively in dynamic business environments
• Ability to work at a fast pace in partnership with business stakeholders 
• Track record of building effective relationships internally and externally with stakeholders, intermediaries and service providers.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, capable of communicating with audiences at all levels with clarity, impact and influence.
• Self-starter with growth mindset and a passion for discovery and innovation

Desired Skills:

• 3-5 year’s commercial experience with cloud data technologies (Snowflake, AWS, GCP)
• Experience with text data mining/analytics and Gen AI (NLP, LLM)
• Knowledgeable in consumer & digital marketing
