Day in the life of:
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Data Engineer to join our growing team. In this role, you will play a critical part in designing, building, and scaling our next-generation data platforms. The successful candidate will be responsible for setting up and maintaining data pipelines for ingestion and consumption, ensuring data integrity, and optimizing data workflows across on-premise systems and Azure-based resources.
Core Responsibilities:
- Architect, design, and implement high-performance data pipelines and ETL processes.
- Develop and maintain data infrastructure and platforms using Azure technologies, ensuring scalability, reliability, and security.
- Work closely with stakeholders across business and technology teams to understand requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
- Stay abreast of industry trends and emerging technologies, identifying opportunities to enhance our data and analytical capabilities.
- Champion and implement best practices for data engineering, including data modeling, data quality, pipeline optimization, SDLC management, and performance tuning, within a collaborative team environment.
Key Skills and Competencies:
Must-haves
- Degree in computer science, information sciences, or equivalent relevant experience
- 5+ years of experience in data engineering, with a proven track record of building and scaling data-intensive applications.
- Deep understanding of data warehousing concepts, dimensional modeling, and ETL best practices.
- Proven ability to drive data initiatives to align technical solutions with business needs.
- Strong proficiency in SQL and Python and at least one other language like Java, or Scala and experience working with large-scale datasets.
- Hands-on experience with SQL Server based data technologies such as SSIS, SSRS, SSAS, and Azure based technologies such as DevOps for CI/CD, Azure Data Factory, Azure Databricks, Unity Catalog.
- Experience with the Azure Cloud Platform, including data storage, processing, and analytics services.
- Familiarity with data modeling tools and techniques.
- Experience with data visualization tools such as PowerBI (with deployments spanning an on-prem server and the cloud service).
- Experience collaborating in cross-functional teams of business stakeholders, data scientists / analysts, and software engineers to define and implement data strategies that support analytical and operational needs.
Nice to Haves
- Experience in Capital Markets or Financial Services is an asset.
- Experience with data governance and data privacy best practices is an asset.
- Passion for data and a strong desire to solve complex problems.
