How will I help?

You will take a leadership role in implementing cutting edge AI solutions as part of Westpac’s Group Data Platforms (DP) business unit.  The role combines research and innovation in analytics and AI services, targeting and delivering world class, futuristic outcomes, while also ensuring that our key Customer Cortex, Data Democratisation and Advanced Analytics services are powered by the latest AI capabilities. You will lead data science and engineering teams, working with business stakeholders, platform and architecture teams to deliver scalable, user friendly, reliable and ground-breaking services. This includes:

  • Leading Artificial Intelligence Services function as part of the Data Strategy, Cortex and Advanced Analytics team (DSCAA).
  • Being a key thought leader in Westpac on how Predictive, Prescriptive and Generative AI can be incorporated into technology solutions to transform how Westpac operates and serves our customers.
  • Leading the research for the Group Data Platforms team on Artificial Intelligence trends, disruptive impact and value potential.
  • Leading the ideation, design, delivery and service offering for Generative AI Agents and Westpac’s agentic approach for leveraging LLMs to create an AI Workforce.
  • Creating the business case to fund a roadmap of capabilities, features and enhancements to AI Services and execute this on time, in budget ensuring service objectives are met.
  • Leading the definition, design and implementation of technical capabilities to achieve the AI Service operational excellence objectives. 
  • Ensuring AI Services are scalable, reliable and user friendly.
  • Defining an industrialised approach that prepares Westpac to experiment and adopt innovation rapidly to take advantage of industry breakthroughs.
  • Working closely with Platform/Engineering/Run and Architecture to ensure service requirements and objectives are supported by architectural roadmaps/patterns and Platform capabilities.

Main accountabilities include: 

  • Accountable for the people leadership of staff, partners and contractors required to deliver service excellence and AI service outcomes.
  • Accountable for the Advanced Analytics & AI product/service and related business facing roadmap.
  • Accountable Advanced Analytics & AI service quality and OLA’s and overall service excellence of DSCAA services.
  • Responsible for delivering new features, capabilities and tools on time and on budget as per committed technology proof points where applicable.
  • Accountable for the research, documentation and communication of AI and Advanced Analytics papers and thought leadership to support DSCAA, Data Platforms, Technology and Westpac strategic discussions and alignment.

What do I need?

  • Demonstrated senior level experience in Data Analytics, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Machine Learning domain knowledge.
  • Proven experience in technology product ownership and engineering sophisticated data and AI outcomes.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading Advanced Analytics and Engineering team including performance management, coaching, mentoring and career support.
  • Solid experience delivering new features, capabilities and tools in the AI domain on time and on budget.
  • Experience managing diverse senior stakeholders, with highly developed ability when presenting to large audiences.
  • Growth mindset, able to handle complexity and break problems down to iteratively deliver value.
  • SAFe AGILE experience and knowledge.

This role is part in the UNITE program will be Westpac’s biggest transformation project ever. It is a business-led, tech-enabled transformation - delivering simplification and benefits for our customers, employees and shareholders.
