Systems Engineer/Lab Automation Engineer

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Systems Engineer/Lab Automation Engineer to join our dynamic Discovery team at Attovia Therapeutics.  Our self-driven team of scientists is focused on developing Attobody™-based therapeutic molecules, and the successful candidate will work closely with cross-functional teams to apply technical expertise in managing Benchling workflows, designing data schemas, automating processes, and developing data analysis tools to support research initiatives.  This role reports directly to the Head of Biologics Discovery and is an on-site position.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage and optimize Benchling, including notebooks, registry, workflows, and insights.
• Design schemas aligned with experimental workflows for efficient data structuring and querying.
• Develop and automate workflows on Benchling to streamline internal processes and data management.
• Write SQL queries and build interactive dashboards within Benchling for data visualization.
• Collaborate with scientists to identify data analytics needs and develop tailored solutions.
• Develop data analysis tools using R and/or Python to support research initiatives.
• Programming and troubleshooting liquid handling robotics platforms.
• Assist with the design, implementation, and maintenance of automation solutions for lab equipment and data transfer from the lab equipment to Benchling.
• Collaborate with scientists to transfer manual/semi-automated assay processes to automated liquid handler workflows and validate the results.

Basic Qualifications

• Prior experience working with Benchling, including notebooks, registry, workflows, and insights.
• Strong understanding of biological data and experimental workflows.
• Strong technical understanding of lab automation tools and prior experience working with the programming of lab automation system.
• Expertise in SQL for querying structured data.
• Proficiency in R and/or Python for building data analysis tools.
• Ability to design and implement schemas for structured, queryable data storage.
• Experience creating interactive dashboards for data visualization and summarization.
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to collaborate with scientists on data-driven solutions.
• BS/MS in bioengineering or bioinformatics, or equivalent work experience in a related scientific or technical field.

Preferred Qualifications

• BS/MS in biology, life sciences, or similar disciplines, along with relevant on-the-job training or self-directed learning in bioinformatics, software development, or data science
• Hands-on experience with Benchling API and event-driven automation.
• Prior experience working with the programming of Biomek automation system.
• Experience in BioLab equipment automation.
