Who We Are

In Roche’s Pharmaceutical Research and Early Development organization (pRED), we make transformative medicines for patients in order to tackle some of the world’s toughest unmet healthcare needs. The pRED Data & Analytics team is the bridge between digital technology and science, and brings together all competencies required to design, build, operate and evolve our digital landscape and the pRED-wide data backbone. We enhance the full scientific data pipeline from structured data capture to powerful data integration and efficient data interrogation in order to create and develop successful drug molecules as efficiently as possible.

Internship Mission

We are offering an exciting opportunity for a talented data scientist or bioinformatics intern in a collaborative environment, where data and biomarker scientists are working closely together, to establish AI models on in-house and real-world data sets. In this project, to better understand response to tumour therapy, we are focusing on developing AI models for use with data from clinical studies. The goal of this research is to reveal novel molecular mechanisms underlying the body’s response to therapy in order to improve treatment strategies and accelerate our personalized healthcare solutions. You will:

  • Champion the preparation and quality control of clinical and high-dimensional datasets and build relational information

  • Apply and optimize AI models

  • Perform validation and performance validation of the models on additional sets of data

  • Own and drive the project with our guidance and mentorship

  • Interpret results in a collaborative setting

Your Profile

We are looking for a candidate with a background in data science, computer science, bioinformatics, or related field of studies who::

  • Has experience in shell scripting and R or Python, applied to data processing & machine learning

  • Is a creative problem solver comfortable experimenting with new computational approaches

  • Has a strong interest and curiosity for understanding and interrogating complex data in the research setting

Who You Are

  • You are either enrolled in or have recently completed (within 12 months prior to the start date) your B.Sc. or M.Sc. degree in bioinformatics, computer science, or a similar field, and you are looking for a 6-month internship.

  • You are used to working in a team environment.

  • Your profile is rounded off by having good communication skills in the English language.

Following the Swiss regulations, non-EU/EFTA citizens must provide a certificate from the university stating that an internship mandatory part of their degree program. Furthermore, they need to be enrolled during the entire duration of the internship. Please ensure that these documents are uploaded along with your application.

Duration: 6 months

This internship is not suitable for a Bachelor or Master thesis.
