Role: UG Summer Intern

Grade: Grade 3 (£23,028-£23,881)

Contract Type: Full Time (1FTE), Fixed Term (2 Months)

Detailed Description

The Advanced Materials and Manufacturing Laboratory at IMPEE is recruiting a UG summer intern to work on a project funded by the Henry Royce Institute (https://www.royce.ac.uk/internship-scheme/internship-2025/). The project focuses on developing a data-driven optimization model for gypsum plasterboards integrated with steel slag to reduce carbon emissions. The intern is expected to have hands-on experience in machine learning and modelling tools and will contribute to this innovative research through data collection, data modelling, analysis, and delivering a final report. 

This is a full-time position for 2 months (35 hours / Week), tentatively 1st May to 30th June.

Education, Qualifications and Experience  

Essential Criteria: 

  • The candidate holds artificial intelligence-related qualifications.
  • The candidate holds experience in programming languages such as Java, Python, C, OCaml, NumPy.
  • The candidate has demonstrated his data modelling skills through an applied/industrious project.

Desirable Criteria: 

  • Have an interest in interdisciplinary projects.
  • An understanding of engineering materials and manufacturing processes will be advantageous but not essential. The candidate will be trained on materials& manufacturing knowledge, as required.
