Summary

Are you passionate about building AI/ML/LLM-powered systems to stop fraud at scale? Do you thrive at the intersection of technology, data, and regulation? Are you ready to lead product efforts that directly impact the trustworthiness of a platform used by millions?

Yelp’s Trust & Safety team is seeking a Lead Product Manager to drive core efforts for our Review Recommendation System and global compliance initiatives. You’ll play a critical role in shaping Yelp’s defenses against fake reviews and deceptive behavior, while also serving as the product lead for our evolving global compliance efforts. You’ll work closely with engineering, data science, legal, and operations to ensure Yelp remains a trusted platform for millions of users.

This is a high-impact role at the heart of Yelp’s content trust strategy. You’ll lead the roadmap for AI/ML models—including LLMs—that power Yelp’s review recommendation system, combat spam, and safeguard account authenticity. You’ll also partner closely with Legal to ensure our systems align with regulatory requirements across the U.S., EU, and other jurisdictions.

Where You’ll Make an Impact

Spam Detection & Recommendation System (80%)

  • Lead the product strategy for identifying and mitigating spam and fake content using AI, ML, and LLMs.
  • Evolve the review recommendation algorithm to stay ahead of adversarial behavior.
  • Define and expand the account authenticity and integrity problem space to support long-term investment.
  • Drive cross-functional alignment across engineering, operations, data science, PR, and legal to protect Yelp from manipulation and abuse.

Compliance (20%)

  • Serve as the primary product partner to Yelp’s Legal team on compliance matters.
  • Translate emerging legislation and regulatory guidance into product strategies and scalable systems.
  • Ensure compliance across the U.S. (federal and state), EU, UK, and Canadian regulatory frameworks.

This opportunity is fully remote and does not require you to be located in any particular area in Canada. We welcome applicants from throughout Canada. We’d love to have you apply, even if you don’t feel you meet every single requirement in this posting. At Yelp, we’re looking for great people, not just those who simply check off all the boxes.

What you'll do:

  • Define and execute the roadmap for spam detection, review recommendation, and account integrity using AI, ML, and LLMs.
  • Translate loosely defined or emerging abuse vectors into structured, measurable product initiatives.
  • Partner with Legal to interpret regulatory requirements (e.g., DSA, CPRA) and build scalable compliance solutions.
  • Lead cross-functional efforts across engineering, operations, data science, PR, and legal to drive alignment and deliver impact.
  • Use data and experimentation to evaluate threats, measure product performance, and inform prioritization.
  • Present clear updates and tradeoffs to executives and stakeholders to build confidence in direction and outcomes.
  • Represent the Trust & Safety team internally and externally as a subject matter expert on platform integrity.

What it takes to succeed:

  • 5+ years of product management experience, with at least 3 years working on ML/AI-based systems; LLM experience is a plus.
  • Demonstrated success leading product initiatives in Trust & Safety, content moderation, fraud detection, or recommendation systems.
  • Ability to influence, build trust and align cross-functional teams across all levels of the organization through excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong analytical thinking and comfortable working with data to identify root causes and measure impact.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, especially when working with legal, PR, and executive audiences.
  • Passion for building trustworthy systems and protecting users from bad actors.
  • Familiarity with global regulatory trends affecting online platforms (e.g. DSA, CPRA) is a plus.
  • Prior experience in a consumer tech or platform company is preferred.

What you'll get:

  • Compensation range is $124,000-$269,000 annually. Depending on your role and level, you may also be offered a bonus, restricted stock units, and benefits.
  • This opportunity has the option to be fully remote in all locations across Canada.
