About the Role:

The VP, Enterprise Data Architecture is to lead the strategic design, governance, and execution of our enterprise-wide data architecture. This individual will play a critical role in modernizing our data ecosystem, optimizing data assets for business value, and enabling data-driven decision-making across the organization. The ideal candidate will have deep domain expertise in insurance (P&C, Life, or Health), a strong understanding of modern data platforms, and the ability to influence senior leadership on enterprise data strategies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Enterprise Data Strategy: Define and drive the vision, strategy, and roadmap for enterprise data architecture, aligning with business objectives and digital transformation initiatives.
  • Data Architecture Leadership: Establish robust data governance, data management, and cloud-based architecture frameworks, ensuring scalable and secure data solutions.
  • Domain Expertise in Insurance: Bring deep understanding of policy, claims, underwriting, actuarial, and regulatory requirements to design industry-specific data solutions.
  • Technology & Platform Optimization: Lead the modernization of data platforms (cloud, on-prem, hybrid), data lakes, data warehouses, and real-time analytics to drive business insights.
  • Senior Leadership Influence: Partner with the C-suite, business leaders, and technology executives to advocate for data-driven culture, architectural best practices, and innovation.
  • Data Governance & Compliance: Ensure adherence to regulatory and industry standards (NAIC, GDPR, CCPA, IFRS 17, etc.), embedding governance into architecture.
  • Team Leadership & Collaboration: Build and mentor a high-performing data architecture team, while working closely with data engineering, analytics, and business teams to deliver strategic outcomes.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • 15+ years of experience in data architecture, with at least 5+ years in a senior leadership role (Director/VP level).
  • Strong domain expertise in insurance (P&C, Life, or Health), with an understanding of policy, claims, underwriting, and actuarial processes.
  • Proven ability to influence senior executives and drive enterprise-wide data strategy.
  • Experience with modern data platforms (Databricks, Snowflake, AWS, Azure, GCP, etc.).
  • Deep knowledge of data modeling, metadata management, data governance, and MDM.
  • Strong understanding of AI/ML, predictive analytics, and real-time data processing for business impact.
  • Experience in leading large-scale data transformations in a federated enterprise environment.
  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills to bridge business and technology teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in a CDAO, or Chief Architect function is a plus.
  • Familiarity with GenAI applications in insurance and advanced analytics use cases.
  • Strong understanding of FinOps in cloud-based data environments.
