OVERVIEW:

Responsible productivity measurement, analysis, and process improvement allowing for improved Commercial Bank understanding of our support structure and cost, and allowing Commercial leadership to make more informed decisions.  This analysis will allow for a deeper understanding of our processes and drive efficiency where possible.  The initial priority will be credit delivery and credit risk management but will ultimately extend to all areas of the bank.  This will be an individual contributor initially with the potential for managing in the future.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Partner across Commercial Banking to better understand our manual and systemic processes to drive efficiency and potentially lower expenses.
  • Leverage business knowledge to not only provide insight to our partners, but ask focused questions and provide credible challenge to produce the most meaningful reports and analyses.
  • Measure cost to deliver activities/services (time and dollars), for example: portfolio manager (PM) activities, annual credit review and underwriting processes.
  • Identify Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for credit, operations, back office, and other Commercial banking functions, for example credit reviews per PM, loans underwritten per month by underwriters, deposit/TM call center customer calls per month.  Goal is to monitor productivity in Commercial support functions to allow leadership to quickly react to trends/changes.
  • Collaborate with partners across the Commercial Bank (including Credit, Risk, Treasury Management, Deposits) to provide data driven insight and reporting to all levels of Commercial Banking leadership.
  • Identify OKRs for processes undergoing change to measure progress against expected outcomes.  For example, after automating a process, how much cycle time improvement was realized and/or how much time/capacity was freed up from the process change?
  • Understand and adhere to the Company’s risk and regulatory standards, policies and controls in accordance with the Company’s Risk Appetite.  Design, implement, maintain, and enhance internal controls to mitigate risk on an ongoing basis.  Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management.
  • Leverage expert business intelligence (BI) and analytic platform skills (e.g. SQL, SAS, Python, Tableau Prep, Tableau) on one or more platforms to incorporate advanced calculations, develop more advanced data flows and assemble complex consolidated dashboards/reports/analyses for presentations.
  • Participate in gathering visualization requirements from business stakeholders.
  • Understand and adhere to the Company’s risk and regulatory standards, policies and controls in accordance with the Company’s Risk Appetite.  Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management.
  • Complete other related duties as assigned.

None

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 7 years’ professional experience, or in lieu of a degree, a combined minimum of 11 years’ higher education and/or work experience, including a minimum of 7 years’ professional experience.  Tactical experience with a minimum of one data visualization tool and/or analytic programming language
  • Minimum of 2 years’ managerial and/or leadership experience

  • Strong project management leadership
  • Experience coordinating cross-functional teams at various levels
  • Skilled proficiency in the use of spreadsheets, graphing, and presentations with a working knowledge of financial models

IDEAL QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED:

  • Experience working with and/or developing and socializing standard review processes for a business
  • Experience analyzing business cost structures and aligning costs to business drivers
  • Experience creating and/or using staffing/gearing models.
  • Experience in Commercial Banking (Finance, Risk, Credit, Deposits/TM, Reporting/Analytics, or Line of Business).

M&T Bank is committed to fair, competitive, and market-informed pay for our employees. The pay range for this position is $115,703.73 - $192,839.55 Annual (USD). The successful candidate’s particular combination of knowledge, skills, and experience will inform their specific compensation.
