What is the purpose of this role in the delivery of our mission?

As a Senior Analytics Engineer, you are the bridge that connects data analysis to data engineering. You provide clean data sets to Orbital’s end users, modelling data in a way that empowers them to answer their own questions. You test data to ensure it is of high quality, document all business logic, and ensure data models are running reliably in a production environment. You champion a data driven culture when defining business priorities and making management decisions. You will empower fellow colleagues with the ability to self-serve in utilising Orbital’s data.

What are the essential skills, qualifications and experience required for the role?

  • Strong experience and understanding of logical data modelling

  • Previously used dbt, data form, or similar tooling

  • Professional experience with SQL required

  • Comfortable with general data warehousing concepts

  • Proven experience in terms of working with cloud data platform

  • Experience with Kimball

  • Experience within an Agile environment/Atlassian tools

  • Experience working with orchestration frameworks such as Airflow

  • Experience managing a team

  • A strong attention to detail and quality, especially as it applies to data

  • Have passion working in a dynamic and growing start-up environment that is tight-knit, challenging and fun


What are the desirable skills, qualifications and experience that would be beneficial for the role?

  • Experience in data analytics / consulting, data visualisation preferably in financial services

  • Experience with a BI tool (Metabase, PowerBI, Tableau, Looker)

  • Experience with Python (Data-frames - Pandas, Numpy)

  • Experience in AWS (Redshift, DynamoDB)

  • Experience using data infrastructure tools (Stitch, DBT, Fivetran)

  • Previous experience in a Tech, Finance, or product firm
